Smart marketing move by Valve, i have to admit that, although i do feel sorry for everybody who buys CZ only to test a beta for a couple of weeks.

Anyhow, what does that mean for HL2 anyway? If they are starting beta-testing later this summer, which is the same time they told us for delivering the master to Vivendi, it clearly means that CS:S won't be shipped with HL2. And I have trouble believing that HL2 will ship without any mulitplayer component. So yay, new HL2 multiplayer .

...or it's delayed a _tiny_ bit longer, just until powerplay is finished.

Sweet! I can't wait! Lucky I bought CZ! Hahaha! There's nothing wrong with CZ anyway. If you don't like it, don't buy it! Now I could laugh at my friends for saying that I'm a fool for buying CZ!

Ha, CZ still isn't worth it.

How about Valve thinks about all the people they stiffed for the last year in the mod community. September 30th my ass, they never had plans releasing it.

Heh well their problem is mommy and daddy didn't allowed them to use

their creditcard so that's a difference, it's out of jealousy.

I am thinking about buying CZ but I am not sure tho, I'd mainly do it out of interest for the HL2 engine than CS. Nice how VALVe is abandoning a bit more complicated games like TFC.

They waited a week before release. Now there going to delay HL2 again.....They knew that they were not even close to be done and yet said nothing. That is why valvE is hated!

So if BETA starts later this summer. How long is the BETA? Few weeks, months?? HL2 might be ship with the BETA.

CSS + later this summer + BETA into final version = HL2 around 200x?

It's also going to be available via "Cybercafe Partners"..are there some cybercafe's that aren't partners..or will all cybercafe's with steam/cs etc. be getting the free beta? and if only some..is there a list?

Guys dont misunderstand, but this is meant to be a *reward* for those who already bought CZ and/or showed their support to ( like setting up a Valve Cybercafe license ).

This is not meant to raise CZ sales, nobody would expect you to buy a game just to be able to play another game's beta. weird. yes.

Okay I tried to post this last night, but the database was still sick (hope Rizzuh nursed it back to health!)

Here are my thoughts on this thread, and some of the posts that have appeared thus far:

                                1) Of course the beta isn't going to be freely available to 1.6 users - it's a beta. Its entire purpose is to be tested by a small segment of the community to uncover bugs before a wide release.

                                2) It makes sense to use CZ owners as beta testers for a couple of different reasons; (a) they're a relatively small segment of the CS population, as mentioned previously, (b) because CZ's system requirements are above those for CS 1.6, you could argue that CZ owners are more likely to have PCs capable of running CS: Source, and (c) why not show a little customer appreciation?

                                3) Nobody's complaining about the Cybercafé owners getting access to the beta. Hell, they even get it before the rest of us. If I may paraphrase the brilliant SubNeoN (Comment #7) for just a moment...
typical, now i've gota open a Cybercafé.. in order to get a "free" beta... BS...
