They DID give out several broad ones. They said "spring". Then "summer". And they're saying it'll be released in "fall".

How much more broad do you people want them to be? Do you just want them to say, "When it's done -- in 2004"? Come on, now...

For that matter, once the game's out the mod community will be pumping out custom models for CSS anyway. And I still don't see very many games with better graphics.

Most of the stuff we've seen is far from completion. We've only seen 2 player models (generic T and CT) and a handful of weapons. Even then, only in low-res videos or screenshots (bar the Deagle).

And you CANNOT say that just because it's coming out at a certain time, that it MUST have the level of graphics you EXPECT it to have. They're also trying to make it so people won't have to buy brand-new comps just to run it. If you have a problem with that, again, just get some new models (or make your own). There are plenty of games coming out right at this very moment that have far worse graphics. I don't see you complaining about them (obviously, because you don't play them, but that's a moot point).

Hell, at least wait for the game to come out before crying foul at the graphics. At least you won't look (as much) like a pessimistic, elitist graphics-whore then.

Farcry, being out for a while now, already has better graphics than hl2, and so does doom 3, ive played it an the graphics are better than hl2, an that game isnt finished either! and dont start with the whole 'quit bragging u havente played doom3' bullshit, yes i have, if u dont believe me w/e, for all u know i could of played hl2 :P

Yes, we know about the damned Alpha. Half-Life 2 also has an alpha that, apparently, is just as incomplete as the DooM 3 leak. You're going to go out and judge these games based on (very early) pre-release builds?

Far Cry is a given. But besides those two, what games have better graphics than HL2? For that matter, "better graphics" is completely subjective.

For example, the character graphics in HL2 look much less plastic-like and more realistic to me. I also find the weapon models to be much closer to their real-world counterparts than in Far Cry.

DooM 3? It's completely fictional. They can draw NO comparison. Personally, I find the graphics in DooM 3 to be rather plastic-like as well.

But the game's not finished yet. Anything can change between now and the release.

My point still stands. The graphics are infinitely better than HL1. Any improvement is a good thing, and HL2 has plenty of them. Whether or not it's better-looking than another game is pointless, as no other game can draw comparison to it in terms of gameplay and setting.

Far Cry takes place on a tropical island out in the middle of who-knows-where. DooM 3 takes place on a haunted space station on Mars.

Half-Life 2? It's in a fictional city that has strong influences from real-world locales. There's just no comparison between the 3.

wow this is so boring, when i get p!55ed over a delay, I do something like, well first upgrade computer, then further delays so went and bought farcry, and if i get bored of that, ill buy another (as they say Ub3r 1337) game. But I cant be arsed to moan about OMFG HL2 DELAYED WTF! stuff

Please don't put too much light on this "release candidate release date" as people who can't tell the difference between a release candidate and a game on shelves will bitch again 22th september. (maybe it's a stategy to have a bitching-free summer at the beach)



I'm tired of these "the game will be out soon, don't buy another game".

If during summer '03 Valve had been honest and said the game wasn't ready, maybe they would have avoided the humiliating hacking thing and a lot of people wouldn't have been lured in buying the ATI video card+hl2 bundle. This card isn't outdated but is cheapper now for sure.

Why dont you idiots save your money and buy a new PC/ video card and HL2 at the same time?

Don't you think you wouldnt have to worry about stuff getting outdated that way?



I think that Valve knows exactly what they are doing so let them release the game when they are good and ready.

I would much rather have HL2 be polished and bug-free in the fall than bug-ridden and rough int he summer (when i wont play it anyways)
