The only complete date Valve has ever announced was the one for last September, since then they haven't promised anything but rather general ideas on when it will be done.

Guess what? They said summer, and it's getting done in Summer. Chill the HELL OUT! You're getting pissed at them for not keeping a non-existant release date!

Wow you little turds. Valve finished the game around E3 '04. They brought in playtesters and tweaked the game to perfection. They said they plan to give the game to Vivendi to publish around August. It doesn't take just 1 week to burn millions of CDs and print boxes, it will be done in Fall, which is Septermber 21 (i think) and later.

I guess this gives me more time to upgrade my video card. I dont think a Geforcemx 4000 128mb will be enough to play it even on medium settings. It may be playable on low settings, but I dont want to play on low settings. :)

omg! Fall! Thank god I did'nt order that monstercomp last september in order to play hl2. It would have been old and ready to throw out by the time of hl2's actual release. =)
NASA Supercomputers will be obsolete when HL2 comes out...

the whole reason valve can't release it on day one of going gold over steam, is a little thing we like to call a contract. Vivendi was signed to publish 2 games that valve either made or oversaw, which was Counter Strike: Condition Zero, and all of our favorites Half Life 2. As soon as HL2 is released, Valve can start releasing games without a mass publisher. I also believe what with all the troubles Vivendi has gone through, the company will fall through after the termination of said contract.

                  And in other news:

Duke Nukem Forever slated to be out by the year's end.

                  /Not convinced.

August is still Summer slick. In fact most of September is still within the Summer season.

So I guess Valve was lying all the times they said "summer".
No more than John Carmack was lying when he said that he only wanted DooM 3 shown at one E3 event, implying a late 2002 or early 2003 release. DooM 3 has been shown at three E3 events.

A lot of you dorks are over-reacting. There is very little difference between August and the fall. Some of you people are ridiculous. How could you possibly be pissed by this? Did you suddenly imagine that Valve working for a Summer release date meant that August 15th was set in stone, even though the company never gave a solid date and has a 6 year torrid history with release date speculation?

Frankly, I am tired of coming to a Valve fansite and seeing these stupid, awkward, and angst-ridden set of ridiculous anti-Valve comments. If you don't like Valve or don't agree with them, go ahead and say your opinion. That's not what I mean. What I'm talking about is the people who think a small "delay" is a) totally unexpected, b) proof that Valve lied to us, c) proof that their hardware is now totally out of date, or d) SEIROUSLT HE END OF THE WORLD IM SO PISSED! Does anyone consider e) the game slipped a few months?

What exactly are people angry about? Valve is trying to finish the game. Do you want them to rush through development? Do you want them to never give any status updates so everyone has no idea when the game is going to come out? Do you expect them to foreshadow every small snag in development and iron out a perfect release date years in advance?

It's funny, people can make all these ridiculous demands of Valve. Well, maybe I should make a demand of the community. When something slips from an already loose release date to just a few months later, support the damn company because they're probably going to release a better product in the end. Support them because they're making CS Source. Support them because they're probably making a Game of the Year game. Support them because you play their current games all the time!

The most important thing to games obviously the street date. Frankly, Vivendi has almost no reason to release it as soon as possible. They'll catch more bugs with time, and they'll get more sales with a September or November release (due to the holiday rush).

But seriously, the difference between an August date and a late September date does not merit any controversy. None.

Yah, but the game isn't done 'till it's on the shelves. And yes, I know August is still summer. What good is a "done" game if it isn't on a shelf, ready to buy?

Well one good thing is that people can't really bitch about a release date for a game that has gone gold.

I can only think of Condition Zero. It's funny how most other companies can make their first release date.
