Hey for all we know, for the options (video) section and all they might be only using low or normal mode for things like player quality texture quality, most games do that you have to upgrade them to super high or whatever we you get them. as long as your comp allows of that if its not too crappy.

The folks from Half-Life Radio were talking about this last Saturday. Infact, someone from Valve was on talking about the delivery of CS Source screenshots to Half-Life Source by Wednesday.

It would be interesting if Valve would release CS Source before HL2. I think with the Fall delay of HL2, it would ease the community a bit if CS Source was released first.

Actually, now I look at the screenshots, this could probably all be achieved in the HL1 engine. Apart from the physics and some of the lighting, hmm, what do u think?
HL engine has already been pushed to the limit. It's maximum potential is shown off with the "newest" smoke grenades we see, those "fancy" water effects we see in DoD. The potential for what could be done and improved in CS:S is so much higher. We can't get map sizes of what they expect with the HL1 engine. And of course, don't forget the AI.

The screenshots are definitely an improvement over the original CS.

There are just a few things that need fixing:

          1. The eggheads. (Ugh!)

          2. The ofhkin' eggheads.

          3. The hands. The nails on it look painted-on...

          4. The muzzleflashes... (these are easily fixed, though)

...You know, that's about all I can think of. Everything else seems perfect.

The poses, unlike original CS, are realistic. And we have rag doll physics. And realistic particle effects. And normal mapping. And pixel shading. And, and...

So, while there are certain things in here that can definitely be replicated in original CS, the potential is staggering compared to the HL1 engine. There's so much more we can do here, complaining about the current artists seems rather moot. (Too bad they don't have ritual working on the models this time, though, eh?)

I think I see another improvement in the models. Look at all the shots with the Pheonix T...he has an assortment of grenades including FB, HE, etc...

I took a look back at the latest video and he's not carring any...

They either implemented that you can now see what grenades the person is carrying or they changed the models inbetween when the video was filmed and the screenshots were taken...

I think the muzzle flashes look fine. On the video it appears as if they last too long, but I'm willing to bet this is due to the lower fps that a video has vs a high fps in CS. I know that muzzle flashes last longer on my own computer in CS than others because I have a lower framerate. As for those that complain about the lighting effect of the flashes, you're being morons.

On another note, this was just CS thrown into the Source engine. When you keep that in mind, rather than thinking that they have been working on this for 5 years, the screens suddenly look a bit better. I'm sure they are working on it. I wouldn't really expect full blown HL2 quality until CS 2, myself.

i like most of it cept the models (which will be fixed)

but you guys have to remember that Gooseman wasn't that great at skinning in the first place. His models are ok but still no TOO great. So when i say this it doesnt really ask for anything.

The arms seem to be jointless. If you look at the thumb on the side of the D. Eagle it looks all curvy.

The D. Eagle itself is one of the better skins. its just that in this screenshot the lighting was such that it made it look bland. It was made to look like a REAL D. Eagle with the shiny chrome (bluish hue and strong light reflection).

But no one really knows if Gooseman created these models. It was most probably another Valve employee. I don't think these models look bad, they're quite nice. If you look closely you can see actual detail on them and not just flat textures.

Hell, it would probably even allow for an o in cbble.
This is only 2004! I'm not sure we'll see that sort of technology until at least 2050, or maybe 2060. At even then it might be at the cost of a less common letter, such as 'x', 'z' or 'e'.

All I know is that hundreds of scientists and engineers around the globe are working on problems like these, such that hopefully, one day, our children or perhaps our grandchildren will live in a world where all CS maps contain all their necessary letters, and won't be tortured by nightmares of 'cbble' and 'cstle'. We can only wait and see.

                            I like everything about it.

It will be a great way to freshen up the entire game and give a new bottomline for modellers/skiners what have you to play with.

how do u know these screenshots are new, they could of been taken back around when they announced cs source, []0lus there are some really good modelers out there, so they can make new models for us . like dijeese makes some fine models, same with LACA.
