yeh on the aztec screenshot they look very weird, almost like a giant hunchbacked (talking about the CT on the left), and on screenshot 2 the T guy has a stupid looking head + he holds the AK as a player would hold a machine-gun in cs 1.6 (like no aiming)
The player models in cs have always hip shooted the ak,which I hope they take out.
Actually, now I look at the screenshots, this could probably all be achieved in the HL1 engine. Apart from the physics and some of the lighting, hmm, what do u think?

Sorry, but you obviously cought the tail end of what he was saying. Look at what weve been given in the way of media for CSS, i can honestly say it doesnt seem a vast improvement graphically over CS. The shadows are nice, the physics are nice, and its also nice now that we have the ability for large maps (is this a good thing?) but that doesnt change the fact that CSS really isnt impressive. HL2 looks nice, this looks like a cheap tie in.
I'm not saying both engines are the same or the HL1 engine is just as good. The source engine is probably capable of creating great looking games and will most probably be used in years to come. What I meant is that going by these screenshots, this look could most probably be achieved in the HL1 engine. Apart from the physics, shadows and lighting of course. I mean, take a look at CZ for example. That uses the HL1 engine and if you compare CZ to these new CS: Source screenshots, CZ doesn't look much worse off now does it.
I guess we're all gonna have to wait for a high quality movie to see the engine in action. I'm sure that once everyone has seen a high quality movie of it in motion, people are gonna be much happier.
abysmal wrote..

I will go to the presentation of CS:S by Valve at Seoul, Korea soon and make all the doubters shut up .... or completely opposite. There's a rumor that you will have a chance to play CS:S, which, sadly, seems to be unlikely, though. Bah...
The player models are very poor. Inspect the terrorists head and neck,
Also in the video yesterday, all the models were hunchback.
I agree. The player models look very NON-1337 and the way they run around all Quasimodo style is just plain annoying to watch. I hope they polish that the hell up before release and also work on the gun models/skins. The deagle looks like its made completely out of tin, and the mp5 looks like a fat, plastic, grey, squirt gun replica, oh the horror! Maybe I'm just passionate/critical as hell about this shit, but please don't make us have to run around looking like semi-retardeds with plastic/tin guns vALVE. Other than these gripes though I'm really impressed and looking forward to CS:S.
The graphics are a pretty big improvement, but theyre not amazing. With work though, I do think something like Far Cry or better could be accomplished on the engine. I also think it's good thing that the graphics in CS:S aren't like Doom 3 or anything: alot more can be put into CS:S without it lagging or slowing down (think GTA3: lots of undetailed things put together create something very eye-appealing--even moreso than a few things that are very detailed). I haven't played Doom 3 yet ofcourse, but, with graphics like it, I know for sure that miles of city-scape couldn't run even the least bit smoothly on it. And then with hundreds of physics-effected objects and all? I already have my doubts about net smoothness with all of the physics in CS:S and other mods, but I'll just have to wait and see. If it turns out where playing with 100 pings turns moving objects into some sort of dodgy-like and skipping movement, then count me out.
I remember when the devs of "Devastation" claimed the game ran smoothly with physics on, and even showed videos of it in action. Then we got to play it . . . and oh it was terrible. I know Devastation isn't Valve, but one too many times have I come to the conclusion in other games where...well, to put it simple: Lots of physics-effected objects = laggy and unsmooth gameplay. Who knows though?

I doubt it. HL1 is limited in textures sizes compared with HL2 and if you tried to get that many polygons for player models it would bog down in HL1. Plus the animations are a big improvement over CS.
Um, I do have a very good computer and internet connection? I get 40 pings on most servers. It's just that many don't have the money or opportunity to get pings under 100.
