Half-Life 2 Shipping Languages

Gabe Newell of Valve, has spilled the beans over at Half-Life 2 Fallout on what languages Half-Life 2 will ship in.

The initial languages which should all sim-ship are



English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Thai

It should be known that not all of these languages will have the speech translated, but the text should be translated upon shipping.



Gabe also made note of some other bits of Half-Life 2 information.

• gabe sticks with august release date.
  
  
• game translation will be full (voices + text).
  
  
• game size is about 3.5 gb and 2 gb compressed.
  
  
• the german version will not be censored. half-life 1 used robots instead of humans and oil instead of blood. even though germany has tough rules from games, apparently the only change required is the removal of blood decals on walls and such.
  
  
• hl2 story line is inspired by stephen king book the mist

its kind of interesting... i think this worldwide spread of Half-life is a lot of thanks to Counter-Strike. However i really think Half-Life was pretty established already and the E3 2003 video really converted people into the trance of Gabe Newell. Its really open to discussion and im looking foward to seeing some good (HEALTHY) debate on how the various languages came about.



it would be cool in the next half-life to mix language versions... so its like Gordon goes to Japan and finds the president of Sony has been overrun by Aliens and they uses radioactive cell phones and laptops as superweapons. the learn to control Gordon with it and Gordon is like "ACCCKKK use WASD!!!!! MY LIMBS!" and we are like "HE TALKED KILL GABEEEE GAARRRR!!!" and... *gets whacked by crowbar* *Gabe snickers in the darkness* "the secret shall stay one"

The German version sounds like it will suck.

Conan, this is due of many murders in german colleges, you can see it if you change steam language in german and play HL1 !

haha German version really sucks.. i wonder why its agaist the law to do that.. maybe cough some germans are imature :O and will go shot people around when they play this game but not just that they will create a world domination and copy all hl2 units and take over the world Also on top of that they will create a statue of gordan freeman :O freeeky ! lol that is why they will use robots instead of humans thanks for listening.. good bye ! :P

Whoa... I just played the German version. I was playing it in Russian and theres a big difference. You cant kill anything! They just sit on the floor and shake their head when you "kill" someone!

Lol.. I'm gunna order the English version and the German version :P.. you know... just to see how it sucks to be a gamer in Germany. I mean.. how could a game be fun without someone dying or.. killing something?? ah? everyone with me, right? um... *runs*



oh BTW, I heard that you can't even have Nazi flag shown in video games, such as MoH and RTCW, in Germany. (well, in any case, showing of Nazi flags is illegal in Germany from what I've heard...)
