the new design doesn't work for me, steam still looks exactly the same as it did. : ( what am i doing wrong.
    Restart steam?

And yeah, auto-refreshing skins would be really awesome. Microsoft did it with Windows XP, so I'm sure VALVe could make it happen..

Also, quicker restart times would be great too. Or is that just me? Right click steam tray icon > Exit; Double-click steam desktop icon, "A copy of steam is already open!"

.../sigh...Steam icon not in systray. CTRL+ALT+DEL, Processes, Steam.exe still running..../me waits 5-10 seconds, rinse and repeat from Double-click stage.

Going on around 20 seconds now. Ah, finally, I can open steam.

Ah, steam bootup time. There's some good news. I think we came up a few seconds shorter than Window's boot time.

Don't get me wrong, though. I love steam. I just think they could optimize shutdown/reboot/startup more than they said they did in the past.

Yeah, my steam startup time isn't horrible, but the shutdown time is a bit ridiculous. Hopefully eventually we'll see Steam auto-restart itself when told to apply patches and have the whole process only take a few seconds. Well, one can dream, anyway. :)

As far as the rubber-band effect goes, I honestly don't know enough on the subject to say why, but it has always seemed like the Steam browser updated a bit slower than the windows interface, so I'm guessing it's just content redraw lagging behind the container window redraw.

My only minor complaint thus far is that switching from full view -> games list takes a bit longer now, for reasons I am not aware of. Switching from games list -> full view is still quick, however. Odd.

On a side-note, I'm kinda tempted by that Sin deal... I never played the original, however, so I dunno if it's a series I really want to get into. What do you guys think? Worth the 10 bucks for an old HL-era shooter and a couple hours of Sin on the Source engine? Or was the original Sin not much fun, and Emergence feels more like a demo than a game? I'd love to hear your feedback / recommendations on the matter.

While I'm on the topic of other Steam offers... the Zen of Sudoku demo was surprisingly enjoyable... I recommend taking a look at it sometime when you just want to relax for a bit. I found the combination of focus with the ambient sounds and music to be incredibly calming.

Anyway, the "favorites" is a definite plus... I've got... 82 games sitting in Steam currently, and while creating icons for all of them helped, favorites makes things that much easier. Definitely a pleasant and useful update... how often do you hear this much unanimous praise for something VALVe does? :)

The 'new' interface feels more like the original theme. Better, imo.

haha I hardly noticed a change from my "Flat - Steam" skin to this new one... i wonder if they where "inspired" by the Flat skin design.

UPDATE: I just found out that they gave credit to the flat series designer random_n (check About Steam"). very nice of them :P

            Nice skin update......

Now I've stopped playing source due to lack of updates and a commitment to take the game in a sensible direction. Huzzah :)

Source could use a few new killer maps. I remember the old days between beta 5 and 1.0, when the new maps were what everyone was slobbering after and made each new release essential downloading!

Nighthawk, SiN 1 is all right. Emergence is pretty sweet, full of action from start to finish and it actually feels like a full game, unlike HL2 Episode 1.

btw, I don't quite get what snow is getting at, but the radical changes in gameplay dynamics for source are not bugs, and as such will not be fixed, source will never beat 1.6
He's talking about the ridiculous bugs in the game, not the design differences.

Go in-game, change server filter to secure. Exit, reload game and your favorites should now be shown up in-game.

Sore news indeed for the ever frustrated Latin user, but great news for makers of pastries, ovens, meatballs, Lance Henriksen and Mika Hakkinen.
                          I don't get it..
