    cpoint: hot water Valve

At long last, Counter-Point returns! And as if making up for lost time, we've got quite a long one for you. Ever wondered what all the fuss is about Valve? Ever been so mad at them you couldn't see straight? We get right to the issue. And perhaps we'll change a few minds in the process. Here's a taste from one of rizzuh's emails:
Apparently, the game is always being made easier for newbies. I mean, continually. Valve, almost five years after the release of Counter-Strike, has meetings every day at 2 pm on how to make CS easier for newbies. The gameplay sessions don't stop there, though. At 3 pm, Valve holds a meeting on how to make the game less fun for competitive players. And, finally, at 3:45 pm they go ahead decide which hitbox "bugs" to activate for the day. That's the typical day at Valve. You know, if you trust the typical Steampowered.com forum post.
Inside, we discuss the infamous Fragmaster post, the delays, Condition Zero, and much, much more. And be sure to join the discussion in the comments once you're done reading!

good article. i just have a hard time with valve after they make an update, i adjust to the update, they make another update, and i must keep adjusting every single update. it actually seems the hitboxes are worse off for me in this update when they 'fixed' them. although it does make sense to keep updating CS likewise to keep interest in the game after the years.

oh and thank god this isn't counter-strike planet.

that was one of the most thorough and well-thought out news items i've ever read. I'm of a like mind regarding the anti-valve sentiment. There is way too much corporatisation nowadays, and having valve pool resources into keeping a rusting game squeaky while still having to shoulder a load of community backlash from each update is pretty much a breath of fresh air.

Just too bad you can't change the attitudes of the stubborn, spoilt, ignorant self-centred people that tend to make up the youth of today.

Reading this, rather well written and interesting article if I do say so my self, has reminded me. That though Valve have made some huge mistakes. Those mistakes are blown out of proportion a large majority of the time (see crosshairs) by the frankly abusive little pubesent teenagers. Which take up a good percentage of the fan(?)base that follows CS.

            Oh hum.

If im mad at Valve for doing something stupid that I dont like, i'll stay mad at them. It doesent make it right, but they dont have to listen to me either.

A bit of a biased view, but a brilliant read. Having a third point of view that is anti valve might help reach some more conclusions, but it was a great read. Gonna link to it at www.fragfortress.com

This was an interesting read, and i have to agree with a lot of the points made in there. I for one would really appreciate being asked about and/or notified of even minor changes that they want to make to the game. Like if they had a section on steampowered that said Coming Soon or Under Consideration then people could have time to consider those changes instead of flaming valve when they don't like the changes that are forced upon them by the Steam system.

They could also eliminate the "Try things, then work out the bugs" strategy that way, so that when steam updates are released, they would be pretty finished and they would get less complaints about the less controversial and more obvious things.

Everyone is always talking about how Valve is making these changes.

Doesn't Cliffe work at Valve? I know gooseman dissappeared ages ago, but I'm sure one of the guys that created CS still has input and lately, has been interacting with the rest of us a bit more. Cliffe helped make the game, you obviously like it, why can't you trust his judgement when he wants to change the game?

If you don't like the game, what is the point to standing around and bitching? "I like CS, except for the all the changes they've made since B6." I'm sure there are other games you'd like then. Bye

Opinion columns are supposed to be biased. That is what makes them worthwhile.
