I don't know why people keep talking about "CS2." There haven't been any official announcements. Where do people get the idea that CS2 is even being made? And the words "next version" don't mean "next game in the series."

CS2 is the next obvious thing, it would be the most stupid marketing move ever if they didn't make CS2. They can't just continue to update the current version of CS because no matter how much they update it's still the same old game. People are getting bored and are looking forward to a whole new game.Comment

A couple points:
1) I was pretty sure Valve had said that Counter-Strike is being ported to Source. The E3 half-life 2 video included about 30 seconds of de_aztec on the Source engine, with bullets making water splashes and lots of detailed terrain.
2) No one else has discussed much about Valve using Steam to distribute games. Does Valve mail you a physical CD of the game? I don't really trust Steam to still be around in 10 years, and don't intend to buy any content (whether music, movies, games) without receiving a hard copy.
There are many other reasons having a hard copy is important (internet goes down, steam goes down, valve goes down, valve breaks the game in future patches and wont let you downgrade, etc.). I hope Valve and other online distributors realize this and at least give you the option of paying an extra $5 to have the CD mailed to you.Comment

what do u mean by paid advertising? like when a company pays THG to write a good review for their product? and havent gayspy bought THG yet?
blah, a link to THG.
can't expect much there. Maybe 6-7 years ago, when the site wasn't... well... corporate! It reminds me of reading paid advertising, most of the time.Comment

I just read on some swedish interview that they plan to start works on CS2 after they take and nice big vacation. It also said along with HL2 that are working hard on Team Fortress 2.
http://www.gamereactor.se/texter/?id=1662How are things progressing with TF2?
It's going well, we are at the finishing stages of that development process as well. After ECTS 1999, we decided to put that aside and focus on starting development of HL2. Later, after we were done with the source engine, we continued work on TF2
Does this mean that we are not going to see CS2?
Of course not. We have sketched out the direction of the next CS, something we will begin development of after we've had a long vacation.
Are there any plans for a Half-life 3?
Definitely. We have already written up a continuation of the story and there is still plenty left to tell. We also want to further develop other characters in the game, such as Alyx, Barney and Dr. Klein, something that we will achieve in various expansion packs for HL2 down the road, but also in Half-life 3. Right now, we are working hard on finishing Half-life 2, and I'm not talking any more about HL3 for a while [laughter]Comment
