Half-Life 2 Preview

Tom's Hardware Guide has previewed Half-Life 2 and covers everything that is deemed crucial. Be warned that this does not contain any new information at all, but does go over all major aspects of this highly anticipated game very well. From graphics, physics, to multiplayer, this fine read goes over what you'd expect in any preview.

Half-Life 2 should be engaging and could, through storytelling and action, become the next Best Video Game Ever. The single-player game, along with all the original Half-Life content ported to the new engine, plus some secretive multiplayer elements, could add up to the next addictive package from Valve. It remains to be seen how successful they will be with delivering the content through their Steam. Regardless, Half-Life 2 demands to be experienced no matter how upset you have been by Valve's problems getting it released. And, speaking of release, at the end of the E3 demos, the Valve presenter let us know that everything would be coming out this summer. Hallelujah!

I'd expect more maturity from such a respectable review site.



The rest of the over view seems kinda okay, but the initial statement got me off on the wrong foot.

The truth hurts doesn't it? That sounds plenty mature to me, if I wrote tha preview I would've said "Steam is still a complete piece of shit just like it was the day it was released." The content delivery system known as steam still has just as many annoying bugs as when I first got it and most of them have been addressed many times and are known to the staff but they don't seem to care about them or want to fix them. Steam will never become great, unless it does so in the year 2100 by which time I'll be dead so it won't matter anyways.

CS2 supposedly will have dramatic changes, where as CS:S is just an updated look with the same gameplay. Who knows if it's still valid info, but a while ago we saw a video featuring Gooseman modeling a G36 assault rifle for "the next version of Counter-Strike." That certainly isn't a part of any CS content that has been released so far, and CS:S doesn't seem to be featuring any new weapons as well.



Admittedly, it is theoretically possible that CS:S will hold over for quite a while before an official CS2 comes out, but we really don't know at this point.

"Steam is an interesting and future-looking development in the process of game distribution and content delivery, but thus far has been greatly held back by numerous technical shortfalls and persisting bugs."

Daammn, it's not like they are writing for people that pay for content so it's alright if they have some fun. Putting it the way that they (and I) said it is so much more fun and it gets the same point across. The way you say it sounds far too fancy and almost makes Steam almost sound good which is grossly misleading. Bashing for lyfe! :)

It is more than likely considering the Source Engine is the one Valve plans to use for several years down the road.

Ah yes, everything is this summer eh?



Only bad part about that is, Valve can always release HL2 September 21st and still "technically" say it's a summer release. But of course, that would be a massive dissapointment for gamers looking to spend their summer vacation playing the game. Let's just hope it's out within 2 months.
