Was not my intention to do so. Just basicly saying that there are to many immature kids (even in the ages of 20 and above) who I call SmackTards. Because they simply come into a server. Act cockey as hell. And think their S$#@ Don't stink. They ruin the fun for everyone and it seems as if these smacktards are out numbering the few Mature gamers out there.

Competition has simply ruined online gaming. Turned it from fun to lame in seconds. It's all self glory, it's all about winning. We get the 5 year old ME ME ME MINE MINE MINE aspect from it.

I am glad I can hold onto what community my clan has. Because it's probally one of the few good communities out there. I know there are mature communities and clans out there. They are just rarely seen or heard about. I use to like competition actually. Because I was able to have fun being competitive. But that was ruined with the smacktards. Now I can not stand it. There may be a day where I like it again. But I doubt it.

Times have changed, and I have tried to adapt. With little success. I can adapt to gameplay changes...but not with how the people change.

(replying to n8bowa) No, it's not, at least unless you use the mysterious "third definition" that Ryda put in there. Besides, as I said repeatedly, it's entirely what you want it to be. The endless whining of the community to try to "legitimize" it is nothing short of ridiculous. You're not going to change a lot of people's minds, least of all mine, so just stop. I'm sorry, but there is no "right" or "wrong", only relative terminology.

(Granted you could point out that real sports benefit physical health, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time before n8bowa posts the article that claimed competitive gaming enhances your social skills on here...oy).

No offense, but I take exception when someone tells me their opinion is the right one "whether I like it or not". I may have to accept gravity, the speed of light, or the distance to the sun, but I will not be forced to "accept" or put on equal footing an amazing athlete like Tom Brady and then put him alongside David Funk. Ridiculous, arrogant, and unfounded.

And while I'm on a bit of a roll here, who just said CS Source was CS2? Would people PLEASE stop spreading these things? Gabe noted it was the ORIGINAL cs, ported to the source engine, along with halflife 1, tfc, etc. Rizzuh said the same thing on here. Where ARE you people reading that it's CS2? Ugh. *shakes fist*

      -Rav

OPIE, I can remember better times. I can remember when Rizzuh was one of the "community celebrity" types, because we all ended up milking him for info on the next beta of cs. My clan shared a server with CK3 and D-smiley back in the day...Rizzuh's typical server greeting was "HI F*GGOTS!". Somehow back then it was funny...dunno what went wrong :)

Nowadays you have people with horrible grammar writing on "esports journalist" sites about the "future of esports". Ugh, just ugh. Asshats probably put it on their resume when they apply for a job..bleh.

omfg, ryda, read my post. You too, N8bowa.

"erm billiards (or snooker depending on what u call it) is considered by millions as a sport. chess and poker i dont know, but billiards/snooker is defintely a sport. the top players a multi millionaires."

Glad you completely ignored the rest of my examples, cept billiards :P, but anyways, I don't know anyone that calls billiards a sport.

            Ditto.

Darts, snooker, chess... All requires some special skills, that are maybe not as evident to spot as in basketball or soccer.

The thing is, when someone asks you if you practise a sport, you can easily answer soccer, football or basketball. Less easily table tennis or paintball. Let alone golf, snooker or CS. In the end, it is a question of level.

If you play basketball on the local playground once a month, it is a hobbie. In the local neighbourhood/town/country team in some kind of competition, it is a sport.

For most of us, CS is a hobbie. For the one playing it at the highest level, it is a sport.

            Golf anyone...? :P

Face it, Online Gaming is going to become a huge thing. Sure, "its just a game," some of you may say. Well think about this: didnt football start out as just a game? What about basketball, and hockey? Yet today professional players are being paid a few million a year. A previous post stated that CS Endorsements are paid to the pro players so they can entertain themselves and not us. Well, where do you think we get CS Movies, and CPL demos? Isnt that entertainment? I love how some people say "I cant believe theyre makin such a fuss over an online game," yet they tune into baseball games every sunday and chug a beer with a lame-ass hat on.

Entertainment has been around for a few thousand years, this is just an evolution of entertainment.

Hm, that's another thing that Ravenium brought up. More people attempting "serious" video gaming promotes obesity, while sports promotes exercise which is a counter to obesity. It all leads up to something in the end. Less tax payers' money spent on patients in a hospital that get a heart disease. :P At least in Ontario, Canada, where the health care is free.
Video gaming promotes obesity? No. It may be a side-effect... if you're an idiot and you refuse to excercise, but then again, the very same idiot could never play a video game in his life, and still get fat by reading, but you wouldn't be so quick to say "reading promotes obesity!". By your logic, chess promotes obesity, and that's considered a sport.

Your argument is bias, so to me, and anyone else who can see that, it should be discarded.

I secondly oppose the fact that sponsors dump money (including products) into these teams. Some of the top teams especially. I'd rather see the money used into developing the next generation of technology.
Yea, I'm sure AMD's money that went into SK really set them back on the production of their next chip. Wait.. wait.. no.

The e-sports community has some of the most immature people ever gathered for an activity, regardless of age. Look at Team D1E. They're 20 and older, I've been to atleast 5 tournaments they've also attended, and they're by far the most immature "pro" players I've ever seen. Does that mean that all e-sports players are immature? No. Would I call CS a sport? Yes, but many other's wouldn't, for the simple fact that they think there is an official list of sports. CS fits all the requirements of a sport. Physical activity? It's there, might not be much, but you dont play by staring at the screen and "thinking" your player around the map.

Saying the definition of sports is all relative, is just like saying there is no true meaning behind the lyrics of a song. I HATE when people say that! I used to be the singer for a band, so I'd be the one writing the lyrics most of the time. People would say "what's the lyrics mean?" and then a friend would say something stupid like "it's whatever you interpret it as". That's bullshit, interpret the song in your way if you like, but there IS a distinct meaning behind it, and I had a very clear picture in my head of what I was writing about when I wrote it.

I go by the dictionary when defining something as something so others can completely understand what I'm talking about, but I guess you can make up your own definitions and make your own standards if you feel that it is necessary. Just don't expect many others to be totally on track with you.

So, excluding the dictionary's definitions, CS is a sport if you want it to be, and it is not a sport if you don't want it to be. Ok... :\

"(Granted you could point out that real sports benefit physical health, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time before n8bowa posts the article that claimed competitive gaming enhances your social skills on here...oy)." What are you talking about? I have no idea what type of person you've already stereotyped me as, but I am not someone who defends gaming down to the last grain of salt. I only occassionally play games. This topic was only of interest to me so I decided to get involved in it. I'm not biased here. I'm sorry if you were offended when I said "whether you like it or not", but I assume we're following the dictionary's definitions for English when we're writing in English.

Being fat doesn't mean your an idiot (I'm not fat btw :P). And by your logic everyone playing a video game shouldn't be fat or else they would be an idiot, right? Right there I see your narrow mind way of thinking.

Video gaming is known to be very addicting. I have seen people play 3-5 hours every single day. Yes some people can read for some time too (though rare, as they usually walk around from their eyes hurting), but they will eventually finish the book, while games have multiplayer and mods which provide for a lot of playing :P. Also most people benefit from gained knowledge and improved literacy from reading. What does gaming do? It gives you better reflexes in a FPS? Some basic militaristic strategy in a rts? Also, reading actually burns a good amount of calories, more so than television etc. since you are using your brain more. This applies even more to chess since chess games can require a lot of logical-intensive thinking.

If you become fat, simply because you don't exercise because you'd rather be playing games, then yea I'd call you an idiot.

3-5 hours a day. They don't have time to do anything that would be considered "excercising" after that? I think what you were talking about is people who have no lives outside of the game, where I was just talking about your average e-sports competitor. Even the top players have lives outside of the game.. most of them atleast.

3 hours a day playing games? People watch TV for longer than that.

I very rarely play a game for 3 hours straight, but I do spend a lot of time on the computer. In my opinion, it just offers so much more than TV ever can, and I predict computers to completely replace TV when the vast majority of people get high-speed connections to enable them to watch good streaming video.

Also, I'm not fat. In fact, I'm far from it. I should probably eat more tbh.

if i were to say dildoing myself in the asshole is a sport, would it be ?

i mean sure a million guys do it daily, and your pulse goes up when you stick a foreign object into your rectum, thus "physical exertion" and if you thrust too hard, youll most likely cut your own ass, thus "skill". But its still not a sport! You nerds, if you told LeBron James or Michael Jordan or any other REAL athlete of your picking that youre a huge athlete playing computer games yourself, they would stomp your white ass.
