I have a question, probably very noobish but owell...When I sign up for the deal do I have to already have a domain name? Does it come with the deal? Do I have to buy it somewhere else separately? If not, I'm in...if so, how do I go about doing this?

No. Fool. so what, I can live with HTML and HIGH SPEEDS (suprmonk) that 250mb is almost unlimited bandwidth for me.
You're comparing a very limited free service to a very expansive inexpensive service. Any serious web developer is going to need the stuff that panelhosting.com offers.

#34/32 - no domain name registration is not included - you can get a domain from anywhere -- I personally, use and recommend dotster, but anything will do (all you do is point the domain at the panelhosting ns servers)

Do NOT NOT NOT use Panelhosting for your webhosting. I have been using them for about 6 months w/o issue then suddenly three days ago they announce they are under DOS attack and all sites are DOWN. We have not come back up since and NOW they are telling us that "Sorry we have decided to pull the machine offline and all your data will be lost so you will have to start over from scratch on Monday when we move your account to a new machine"

So not only has my website been down for 3 days and now looks like much longer, but I have 20+ users who depend on the website for their email accounts and they are all out of luck and now I will lose ALL of my data. Unbelievable! If you value your data find someone else to host it!

Rizzuh, you should pull the advertisement for this company. They are completely unreliable.

I'm with #38, I have crucial data on this server because of game development purposes; and these guys just pulled server #2 offline after three days of downtime -- citing that everyone would be switched over to a new server on Monday, with a total loss of data.

They aren't even offering compensation, or data backup retreival.

Instead of doing a logical thing and changing the nameservers, ip address of this server under the Denial of Service attack, they take it totally offline ane hose all the data. Very unprofessional. Do NOT buy service from this company.

bLaCKaT I would like to get in touch with you about this. I'm sure your email is down the same as mine, is there another way for me to reach you? If you are on IRC join my channel at #akbclan and we can exchange alternate email addresses.

jesus christ all the data is lost?.... WTF is that! What kind of DOS attack f'n makes you lose all your data

Man I just knew their firewall / DOS attacks were just BS excuses for some f*ckup.

Just to clarify with the 2 customers who have posted here. Server 2 has been subject to a severe DoS attack, not a fuck up or an administrators clueless mistake. We are unable to block all of the traffic to the server because the majority of the traffic is spoofed, and because the traffic levels are so high, the locally installed firewall is working overtime and causing the server to lockup due to the CPU/RAM working way over its intended work load.

Server 1 was also down for a short period of time too, which has since been resolved. Server 2 remains online, but inaccessible because of the continuing attack and traffic it is being subject to. The server was receiving over 30Mbits of traffic at the point where we could still access it, but it's since increased dramatically. We are in the process of rectifying the problem, and should have the data from that server on Monday or Tuesday. We understand that the down time on that server isn't acceptable, which is why you have been given the option to move onto another server for the moment. If you had took the time to read our TOS, we do not perform backups of data on any part of the network, but we do provide customers with a backup control panel which would of meant you could easily backup/restore your files/email and databases onto one of the other servers while the problem is sorted. Problems like this can happen to any company, and we have had similar problems in the past. Our servers all have heavily customised firewalls, flood-guard protection, and DoS mitigation protection - but most of them won't work against sophisticated attacks where the source of the attack cannot be identified, and the packets are randomly generated from the source and to different ports.

We are committed to providing a good service to our customers, and we're certainly not going to let malicious attackers put us off from continuing to provide high quality hosting services. We've been hosting for over a year, and this is the first ever downtime we've experienced. If the ISP manages to identify a viable source of the problem, we will be taking action against them for both ours and the customers down time and loss of service. In the meantime, it's business as normal - and the majority of our customers on this server have been very understanding and have opted to move over onto another server.

                            Regards,

It's not so much the downtime that wasnt acceptible,... I just flipped when the other guy said we were going to lose all our data (sql databases in particular in my case)... good to know you're doing something to recover the data though afterall. Was that allways the plan and the other guy mis-posted or is that a new development?

                              Thanks

                                It was NOT a misquote:

                                "Dear Server 2 Users.

The decision has been taken to decommision server 2, as there's no telling how long the DOS attacks could continue. The ISP has done everything possible on their end to prevent the attacks, however, the majority of them are spoofed which means they can't located the exact source.

I brand new server will be brought online first thing on Monday, which you will all be moved over to. This will mean that you will have either restore from a backup yourselves, or start from fresh. We will be offering backup services later on in the year for people who are interested.

I will be closing all currently open tickets on the server 2 issue. If you would like to have your account moved onto another server before monday, please submit a support ticket with the request. Nameserver updates will have to be implemented on your end. You will be notified which nameservers to use.

                                Regards,
