I have an Everglide mouse surface from VoodooPC (http://www.voodoopc.com) I really like it, though I'd like to try out a fUnc pad.

      cloth mousemat is fine...

infact there are an awful load of ppl who swear by them, myself included. granted im not the best player in the world, but its what im used to. Cloth mats have a nice friction to them, not rough and bumpy, just a nice feeling. Ive had a func, ratpad, and a cloth mat. melikes the cloth more than them all :)

i got a Coca Cola Mouse pad with the polar bear holdin it up from 1995 and ive never cleaned it so its HELLA fuckin dusty and i STILL play well, but my mouse is a peice of shit. it dont even have a name!!!! its a wireless ballmouse and it uses 2 AAA bateries that i have to replace about 1 a montH!!!!!!and my score in CS is usually around 24-6. i wonder how good it would be if i got a logitec MX900 or watever the highest number is wit a func pad or somethin. ive neve reven heard of a damn funcpad. but when my mouse pad starts to piss me off, i turn it upside down and its hella sticky but i STILL play good, i doubt the pad makes THAT much of a difference

My mousepad is my desk. And it's fine.

Also, I don't see what's the big deal with optical mice. I'll take a ball mouse any day, they're cheaper.

I had the mousepad #17 has, then I got a wierd crescent shaped pad that came with a blue gel wrist thing, that was pretty good but too small. Moved on to a func pad, used that for awhile, got a steelpad, liked it alot until I won a Rival mousepad (and some cash ) through a local Rivalution cafe tournament. I don't think they make them anymore, but they're much smoother than anything I've used, I've tried the DKT, Supermat, and FatPad and it's alot smoother than all of those, and about the size of a supermat. Used it ever since.

I don't think different mousepads can affect your play that much, but I definitely think I'd play much worse on a normal cloth pad, or my desk than I would with my pad. The difference between the Rivalpad and Steelpad is just personal preference.

ive had a lot of pads too. but nothing over "free" (winnings are considered free). i remember days killing off teams solo with M3, p228 and knife on Dust2. that was with an optical on smooth wood.

mousepads dont make a differenece on skill, but the amount of time you can apply the skill (aka comfort). COMFORT IS KEY! with a nice gel pad for my keyboard or comfy mousepad, i can do some super-fragging forever.

btw, thick springy xtra smooth cardboard is VERRRYY GOOD. you must try it for the comfort!

bah, if you're a serious player you'd be using one of these. Better accuracy and speed than any mouse you're using. Take you maybe a week or two to adjust. After that, you'll be better than you ever were. I've already converted about a dozen people to one, and they're never going back.

A track ball?? are you on crack??? just wondering

On a side note I use an ancient 3m precision mousepad that came with my old powercomputing mac clone, and an aopen 5 button mouse with 640 dpi. I've converted more then a few players to the 5 button mouse as you can hotkey weapons a little more effectivly then haveing them on the movement hand. Everyone seems to liek teh feel of my pad and the mouse. smooth no skips, no optical errors

yes they do, you're wasting your time with cardboard and cloth mousepads that won't make a difference obviously, and i bet you and everyone else who denies paying over $20 for a mousepad have never tried a func/dkt/everglide/supermat mousepad.

not just any trackball :P Like I said, converted about a dozen of my real-life friends to one already, none of them would ever go back to a mouse. And after the first week or two of getting used to it they were all already as good as they ever were, and a month or so later they were all much *better* than they ever were with a mouse. And most of them were already pretty damn good. Trust me, this particular trackball is king. Take another look at the picture of it, paying close attention to the layout. The ball lies under your fingertips. What this means is, the actual physical movement required to control it is basically the same as your mouse. Unlike thumb trackballs, which are the WORST invention ever. So, are you more accurate with your fingers? Or with your whole arm? Something tells me when you pick up a pen and write something down you're not doing most of the work with your arm, or when you're typing. Or any one of a zillion other examples. If you were to pick one of these up and actually force yourself to use it, instead of trying it for 5 minutes and deciding it sucks because it's different and you're not as good as you are with the mouse you use all the time, you'd thank yourself. Like I said, you'd be quicker and more accurate than you were with any mouse. I know it from personal experience, and also from my converted friends. It does indeed take some time to get used to it, but in the end you'd be a much better player. Unless of course you're playing games where how accurate you are and how quickly you get those accurate shots off don't matter.

It all depends on preference. Kinda like sensitivity...people ask the pro's for theirs but it doesn't really matter as long as you are comfortable with it.
