I find this sudden change of heart in the direction of where professional CS is heading kind of odd, as league play has pretty much been as its been for going on 2 years now. Its popularity exploded during CS 1.3 with a number of factors, including a large experienced player based ready for the next step, the excitement of one of the first CS centered CPL which featured one of the most popular matches of all time with the American X3 powerhouse taking on the Swedish NiP, and with the introduction of in-game voice communication which opened up the doors for amateurs everywhere to the world of e-sports. With leagues like CAL gaining a lot of momentum, CS left its stages as a pub game, and entered into the professional gaming scene.

As things took off, Valve announced CS 1.4 would remove the ability to jump rapidly in succession. This created a large uproar in the now very large and very vocal e-sports community. But CS 1.4 came and went, and it didn't seem that these changes were for the worse. They did slow down the game play, but all in all it increased the strategy and tactics of clan matches hugely, and no one really complained once everyone got use to it.

We still witnessed some insanely intense CPL matches on the highest level of competition, and new records were set in spectators and mass media coverage.

Now, as the scene has climaxed and seems to be winding down, even if only a little, we are looking for where that spark went. I'll tell you where it's not. It's not in CS 1.3, and it sure as hell doesn't lie in a separate "pro-mode." Counter-Strike may finally be past its summit as it pushes its 5th birthday, but I believe trying to go back to a particular point in its history, be in beta 5.2, 1.0, 1.3, etc isn't going to bring back the nostalgia or notoriety of the "old days."

All we can do at this point is move on and look for CS2 or the next big thing. But I believe this old game still has some juice in it, and any changes made to it at this point should be beneficial to the community at large.

Some good comments on these later pages, just a shame about the earlier "fat teenage american public players" who only read the first 5 lines before replying, because of their 30 second attention spans (unless watching The Simpsons).

Although a mixed response there's definately enough people in favour of this for a pro-mode to be made - we just need someone skilled at programming in AMX-mod or whatever to make it.

Oh an BruiserY5K - excellent posts, we could do with more people like you. Some of us on UKT are looking to take this to the next step.

Very good, well written comment. But personally, I never felt that bunny hopping was a "skill". To me it was almost a cheat. It wasn't cool. It made the game LESS fun. And I don't say that because I am "n00b". I compare bunny hopping to the golden gun of 007 Golden Eye, or the shield of 1.6 .... A cheap move that only unskilled people used because they were not good enough with their guns. "Pros" are good at CS period, so when the bunny hopping thing was fixed (cause to me it was a bug) it didn't make the "pros" any less of players. In pubs it helped the "n00bs" out maybe yes ... but weren't we all "n00bs" once. And I am sure we remember how pissed we were to not be able to hit that f**ker hopping around. And you should thank Valve ... cause when the bunny hop was fixed, it helped you guys, who were always looking for the easy frag, to actually become better CS players.

So go ahead and focus on all the negative things about CS ... But you guys are the ones ruining it. If you're so pissed then go play Dance Dance Revolution. Truth is that the game has made amazing advance since its "1.3 days" and it WOULD NOT be around still if it was a "shitty game".

While I am not a fan of a pro mode or bringing back the old jumping, I did enjoy 1.3 more than any other version. The faster switching of weapons and better accuracy(less randomness) for pistols, and while moving made the game more exciting for me.

I am all for change, but I don't like the trend of making the game easier to pick up. I think most of the people that are going to play the game already are.

No to pro-mode, but no to this trend of "noobifying" the game.

I don't want a pro-mode in CS proper, but a pro-mod AMX mod would be great. No leagues will use it and most clans won't like it. It'll prove a good and valuable point.

You guys really need to distance yourself from arguments like "JUMPING SLOWDOWN = for newbz, RANDOM REC0IL = for nubz on uk2." Those are poor arguments.

Everyone is tired of arguing about jumping and how it is supposedly some newbie conspiracy. It's been a very long time since that change was introduces. And anyway, do you think Jess Cliffe did a playtesting session with some newbies and asked what they wanted changed? Please. I lauded the change and I'm probably the only beta 1 vet in this thread. I also love clan play.

A lot of people love clan play, and don't like twitchy jumping. What about them? How does the pro-mode factor in their experiences? Or are they just paintbrushed as newbies?

You liked being able to jump more. That is the only factual thing you can present about jumping. ...now explain why it would benefit the game to reintroduce a whole bunch of jumping! Jeez, that's your point, isn't it?

Some of us, believe it or not, are above the stupid newbie debates. Make an esports rant that doesn't say the word newbie or beginner or any other euphemism, and there might be something worth discussing.

Well, there probably would be a new "PROZ ONLY GAMING LEAGUE!!@" that someone would make, but it would die quickly.

Seriously, some of you need to read the article over again.

For one, i dont think the pro "mode" is going to only be available to those who the league chooses to be the best. It will be the choice of the player to play that "mode". I think that what should happen is counterstrike as a whole should be put into this pro mode. CS is segregated a lot. But i think that adding these changes would bring more people back to cs. Many people have quit over the years because of some of the changes that this would fix.

CS should not have the wicked recoil that it does and those of you who are complaining that it should stay the same have obviously not been playing that long. Half of you never even played in the 1.3 days when all of this was regular. Even from 1.5 to 1.6 you can notice a change in the recoil. All that most of this does is it take cs back to what it was in 1.3. but add the perks that steam gives cs now.

and dirk i guarantee at times you have complained about cs as it is now in forms of "aw wtf i was shooting him in the head" or "wow how random." Im also convinced that you are one of those kids who complains about the awp having a 1 shot kill. Just because people have less random spray and better hitboxes doesnt mean that everygun will be made 1 shot 1 kill.

and FLow... the whole "What ppl shoud be concerned about is an increase in egotistical internet gaming NERDS!!!! Now, this is something that can ruin a game. Promote competition? Maybe, yeah....well....NO!!!

As was mentioned in an earlier post, the noob comments would be directed at who's playin pro and who isn't. And to be honest, we have enough of that already. Players need to promote new players, in order to keep the game going...shunning them because of their noobness, will only turn them away." What is wrong with competition. The competition is what is keeping most people playing cs. Pubbing gets old to everyone. And "noob" kids have been getting "shunned" since this game started. Its called motivation to get better. This isnt communism... people are better than other people and thats ok. Actually the mode would not have this problem because people would probably be playing with others close to their skilll level depending on what they were playing.

Im not saying that i completely agree with this mode. There are some things (ie the awp slowdown) that i dont like because it changes the game more than it has been. I like this mostly because it goes back to how cs used to be... fast and fun... and this made people better.

The hitboxes and randomness need to be fixed more than anything. Shooting someone in the head only to have the bullet go through their head is not fun. Neither is aiming a foot away from a head and getting a headshot. The spray is almost useless after spraying anything past 7-8 bullets. People HAVE learned to compensate for this though. But why take away skill and replace it with, at times, random luck.

The standardized server were be great. I dont know how many servers i have been to which have their rates set all wrong and make it almost impossible to play. This would also help with some of the registration and hitbox problems.

I do agree with mikej that the community shouldnt be split... but that if this mode was applied it would be for cs as a whole. I also totally agree with lockhart. Those who have played longer and have more skill, and are able, should be able to kill kids that have been playing half as long with half the skill all the time if they are better, and not be randomed. CS HASNT ALWAYS BEEN TOTALLY RANDOM.

I also agree with seaweed that we HAVE brought the game to pub lvl. We slow it down so the kids who arent as good can feel like they are. Its called practice. Most of the people who started playing cs before went through getting the crap kicked out of them by people who could and would shoot them without getting randomed and then we slow it down by making no bunny hopping and slowing down weapon switch speeds.

In the end... I think bodies should stay, you can take them off if you dont like them. Awps should stay as they are... Randomness and recoil should be tweaked somewhat. Actually... i agree with with bruiser on everything, so if you like you can just read everything he posted again and think about it hard... he's right. CS = n00b friendly and no longer requires a cerain skill
