What's exactly so bad about CXG? All I know is that the events "screwed up", but how? And why is it all the blame to be placed on this fellow Recon?

I feel bad for this guy it isn't really like he meant for this to happen, it's just that he isn't the smartest guy to be in charge of an event like this, he seems less mature than my 16 year old brother.



Just by reading his posts, and how he is reacting to this (his hands are shaking right now writing a reply...) obviously he isn't emotionally mature to handle something like this.

That is funny about the 6 months vs. 3 months thing. With all the heat he took, it probably did feel like six. Anywho, there was a small Steam update tonight (so we'd have something to post on the front page) and we need a thread about the impending release of CZ. Pretty please?

This is supposed to be some big apology for a "1.7" million dollar LAN tournament and he types it like a 15 year old on some forum.

Give the guy a break, think how you would feel. I know it sucks what he did but he didn't do it on purpose, he just didn't realize he was unqualified for the job.



He already feels bad enough about this, he probably feels like his life is ruined based on that post about his hands shaking. And I bet anyone who thought half the world hated them would feel the same way.

I'm gonna have to agree with SteelV and Can't $shoot on this one, Recon's taken enough crap from everyone in the past few months to last him a lifetime. I'm not saying it's all undeserved, but there's a point where you just have to say "yes, we all realize you screwed up, and now we're going to move on with our lives and not hold it against you forever."



Sure, nobody's gonna trust Recon to organize a LAN event ever again, that goes without saying, and yes, we all get the point that he isn't really capable of doing a professional job at this point in his life. But what is done is done, and unfortunately everybody came out a loser in this case. Hopefully the impact of CXG's failure a few months ago isn't so large as to compromise the success of other planned large LAN events.

Actually travelling is spelled correctly. It's optional for the extra "l" to be in the word. Not that it changes the fact that he can't spell. As for the six months, I think he didn't clarify that he meant planning a huge LAN event in his head for six months, rather than thinking about the problem "six non-existant months" after the disaster.

I met Recon at CXG NY. He's a cool guy which is why I haven't really flamed him or anything; but the guy was a bullshitter, let me tell you.

My former clan (KGarcia's clan btw) had to play our matches online because Steam was (and is) a POS. We played on SuperComputerGaming's servers which were, in the words of Recon, "Right down the street."

The servers are based in Georgia.

We were in Buffalo.

As Lockhart stated, yes, we drove from Connecticut to Buffalo NY to play with 50ms ping on servers that were located in Georgia. He said they were right down the street and they were the best servers you could play on. Not so true but what can you do but play anyway. Sunday, after the tourney was completed, we played zEx in an exhibition match for Zboards and we got to use the GriffinRUN server our team had in NYC. On our GR we all pinged 20ms from Buffalo and the hardware/performance of our GR was great. Our GR ran at 250fps which gave us a 20ms in game with 101/101 25000 rates. Still though, other people were using the T1 at Cyber Jocks and there would be ping spikes :/ It was better then the day before but still not the same as real LAN.



Another big thing that sucked is the fact that half the qualifier matches were played on LAN while the other half were played on the internet. My team ended up having to play both our matches on the internet because they could only get 1 steam LAN server to work. Not saying it would have changed the final outcome of the matches but, after renting a van, hotel, ect... and driving all that way, it would have been great to actually play on LAN. That was our biggest trip as a team and it really was no different then playing a match from back home on the internet. In fact, it wasn't even as good as playing back home where we all ping 15-25ms to our est server via T1/Cable/DSL. It was still nice to meet up with the people and be in the LAN environment but just missed out on the big part, actual LAN gaming.



You can blame steam but when running a 1.7 million dollar tournament you have to think ahead and have everything situated, which wasn't the case at the qualifier and obviously wasn't the case at Las Vegas. Lay the blame down on anyone you wish but to be truly honest.. if I was running a 1.7 million dollar tournament I would be working VERY closely with the game companies such as Valve to make sure everything went perfectly smooth. Not just trading "emails" and what not.



There are many things I could go on about this but it's over with and frankly I don't really care anymore. Now maybe if I had gone to Las Vegas that would be a different Story, as there are many people out there who went and are still very very pissed and with good reason.



All I have to say in closing is I don't care what Recon does now. If he wants to play in CAL then fine... Why would I care? Join a team, play in CAL, and just remember your cut from anything that has to do with running a LAN event. Things are looking brighter everyday for The CPL. I back CPL 100% and I look forward to another great summer CPL, which is just around the corner.
