i don't know if it's steam, or the msn mail server, but my confirmation email still hasn't been received after about an hour of wait. anyone else having a similar problem?

Honestly, the best way to resolve these issues would be to release updates over the course of several days, but not activate them until a certain amount of time has passed. That way, everyone's game would still work while updates were being downloaded in the background. When enough people were updated, VALVe could "flip the switch" and activate the updates, bringing the bulk majority of the community up to date instantly.
As for now, though, I'm content to wait. My life doesn't revolve around CS, unlike some of the less social members of our community.Comment

You imply that the updates to CS are free. They are not. In order to receive the updates you must have purchased the game.

Oh, and to forstall the obvious argument, software updates are provided free of charge for most consumer level software. Only at the enterprise level do companies charge for a version update. Obviously, CS does not fall into that category, yet.Comment

what he means is..in real world business software you pay your licence fee for each machine you wihs to run the software on, and then you pay a monthly fee to keep it updated - things that need regular updating such as AV software use this often.
and how eactly do you judge your version of MS winblows that costs you 100 pounds or so for each update....the same software that doesnt let u install it on more than 1 machine. at least valve lets u use steam anywhere any time....Comment
