everyone could define an athlete or a sport a different way, theres no one solid way to define it. some of those definitions would consider cs a sport, others wouldn't, etc.



and currently, cs1.6 IS more popular and more frequently played than CS Source, hence steams network usage (http://steampowered.com/status/game_stats.html), in fact cs1.6 is played for more than twice as many minutes as css, so dont make statements that you cannot back up



if torbull wants gaming to be a part of his job, then fine, let him, personally i'd love to play games or manage a game team for a living.



i think cs is a long way from being considered a sport, its more of a competitive game that can be taken very seriously or played casually for enjoyment.

i am glad that most people on this board is against the idea of video gaming as a sport. I mean, it's funny to even consider a person sitting in front of a computer, mashing mouse and keyboard buttons, an athlete. hahahaha... Maybe these guys need to think about obesity.

The people who are arguing about Counter-Strike being a sport get it through your damn head. IT'S NOT A SPORT. IT WAS NEVER MADE TO BE A "SPORT." People are just taking gaming too far. But sport? geezuz that is just plain stupid. If its a sport then I am an athlete at my job because I work with computers all day. I get paid to hit keys and move a mouse around and click, so wtf, I guess I am an athlete. Woot!

The word athlete is an ancient Greek word that means "one who competes for a prize" and was related to two other Greek words, athlos meaning "contest" and athlon meaning "prize."

The word Sport was formed as an abbreviated form of disport. It first appears in a Middle English romance called Ipomadon in about 1440. Disport derives from Anglo Norman desporter "to carry away" or, metaphorically, "to divert, entertain", formed from des- "apart" and porter "carry". The word originally referred to "amusement". It did not gain its modern sense until the 19th century. (click)



Therefore CS is a sport in the ancient sense, (i.e. an amusement). However, language is continually evolving and the modern meaning of the word in it's principal definition, (emphasis on physical activity,) really has very little to do with computer games...
