Well, I actually thought this article was an excellent read. Well written, good analogies, simply a good use of comparisons. The guy has valid points, and id agree with what he says on 90% of his article. I don't play cs as much as I used to (infact usually at most 4-5 times per month), but to put it simply, Counter-Strike is an old game contending with modern day rivals. Its gameplay hasn't really changed, and the new additions and changes made to the game don't further this.

The thing that annoys me most about CS is its community. Immaturity is pretty much top factor in that equation, just look up at some of the comments above and you'll see what I mean by that. A guy can't go on the server and get a respectable score without some form of abuse. The old 'wtf fking nuub ur mumma is a hoe' etc etc is really whats going on here. Perhaps people act like this ingame, because they know the player can't do anything to hurt him/her in real life, and thus, they can vent their frustration of real life issues on ingame players. Either that or they are just total eejits. Who knows these things...

here's a guy who had the audacity to speak his opinion... KILL HIM!

      right?

I agree with him on many counts. I don't claim to be a skilled player or anything; but it's just not fun. A game should be fun regardless of whether you have skills or not (or else why should 80% of players play this game?). And even then, what are skills? Once you pass a certain skill level, everything is luck.

After beta stages, evolution of CS was moved to team platform. I mean pre-build teams, challanging each other, playing with their own strats. Public-play is boring and it's not much than repetition.

When playing public style gets boring, try joining a clan or setup your own otherwise. Then challange some clans, join some leagues. Develop your strats, practice them, watch demos of other clans. There is no limitations, no point to get bored here. It's a very funny and long way to go. CS, as what it's been evolved to be, is the game you see in top level clan-wars. Not the one in public servers.

I rarely ever play CS anymore, although I do play CSX quite often. Nowadays I've been spending time playing Wolfenstein ET or doing something else besides games.

I'll tell you foos what?? If FPS'es like SOFII or MOHAA or BF whatever had built in voice comm, CS might have died along time ago!

And if that nutball is sick of playing CS, do we really need to hear about it??

Try getting a models pack or something! or new servers with NEW maps!

I know of this site that has those! Check this out:

            http://bicyclman.clancof.net

OK I know! It's my site! But check it out anyways!

I'm just sick of people saying that CS must die or all of human existance will cease to exist!

When is Valve officially releasing the new CZ player and weapon models and stuff anyways??

This article just rambled on and on and on and on...

Plus, he doesn't know what he's talking about.

                  IMO.

That was a pretty good article which echos my own opinions regarding CS, and it's made me realize some other points.

I'm not sure why I keep coming back to this site to check the SotD, even though I haven't played CS in ages...
except I'm checking the PotD, I feel exactly the same way. There was a time when playing CS was cool, now a lot of people wouldn't want to admit that they play CS.

And that's bad, because CS has been one of the best games out there. If only it could die in peace, like so many other games, instead of having to pass over the "uncool" state.

THIS IS MY REPLY TO WHAT HE SAID ON ARTICAL

plz read tell me what u think

                      dear writer:

I think u have some real talent in writing an artical,

however i think u should research a little bit more before u comment about how a game is eclipsed or how it sucks compared to another game.

FIRST off cs isnt ment in ANY way to be a quake type game so u shouldnt and cannot compare the 2. quake is for ppl without patients, and without any team skills. counterstrike offers gamers a chance to come together and use eachothers skills to win rounds. not have 1 player run threw and frag everyone on the map. hell that would be boring or wait thats just quake.

SECOND try playing maps like dust2 or nuke or train maps that show WHY counter strike was made to be a slower paced game based on teamplay not on rushing. sniper rifles are good for a reason, not for those without any other skills other then "aim/reflex" like u said above. in a match and a scrim awps are used as cover weapons. please tell potti or element or rambo that the awp is a weapon for ppl without actual game skills(if u even know who they are).

THIRD i highly suggest that before u talk about worthless updates u learn programing or even read what the updates actualy did, they were made to improve that game and even more so to protect gamers from problems like hacking. and thats another thing about getting kicked for hacking? thats one reason why only noobs pub. pubing only gets you so far.

if u wanna talk about how cs is too slow and how cs is out done by newer games. take rainbow six instead of cs to ridicule that is the slowest game around. but its still a great game. counter strike is the largest most profitable mod and multiplayer game in the world and it is for a reason. saying it only takes time to master how to shoot a gun, only shows that u have very little actual cs experience. try learning strategys and playing for a clan that actualy knows what its doing. if u like games that are fast play quake or even better play a newer game (since u seemto like those) play UT2k3. and speakingof that why dont u use it as an example of how ut2k3 players are nothign compared to the likes of the CS leets. the best ut2k3 player in the world didnt even get to play a round at CPL this winter cause he wasnt needed.

so in conclusion do a lil research and someone might take u seriously.

Okay, the guy above me really needs to learn how to type. I read every comment except that one.

My opinion? Well, since you asked...

I like Counter-strike because it's fun. The game itself is fun. However, your experience with it can be quickly ruined by people on the server. Immaturity plagues 95% of the online population. I played a bit in 1.3, enough to like it, bought it later, but only really played in 1.4 (a little 1.5) and now a lot more in 1.6, not due to the patches but due to my ability to have more than a 56K connection.

Basically, if you can find someone who can laugh when he gets out-thought or out-gunned, say 'good game' or 'nice try', use voice com without insulting anyone or whining, and (perhaps) likes to play other maps than dust/2, italy, and aztec, then the game is a lot more fun.

If, however, you meet someone who every time they kill you, they've 'owned' you, (or worse, 'pwned', which isn't even a word), who talks about how 1337 he is (when the correct word is elite), and how everyone else is a 'nub' (when the word is 'newbie', with two syllables for crying out loud...)

Well, the 'leet' community seems to pride itself on being skilled at immaturity. So, forgive me if I'm not 'leet'. But the point is it is the 'leet' community itself which makes pubbing (and therefore most of CS) not worthwhile.
