I'll take it from your remarks that you have never lived in an urban area populated by a bunch of people who have no emotional bladder control. Try living in a city where people would rather punch you in the face than say hello, where blowing your horn at someone who cuts you off can inspire someone to attempt to kill you, etc...

So, yes, eventually I expect a situation may arise that I may need to defend myself - therefore to quote the movie Unforgiven, "I ain't gonna die for lack of shooting back."



I do also hunt and therefor own the correct tools for the job. I own several rifles and shotguns all of which are tools for hunting. The handguns I are own are tools for personal protection - that it all they are. TOOLS. LIKE YOU. Please read and attempt to comprehend my entire post next time - thank you.

I once caught a guy cheating an internet-cafeé and I nearly beat the crap out of him.



Tonight I went on 10 different servers and each one them had people cheating.



If I DID have a gun and one them punks was nearby...I'm not too sure I wouldn't have done the same...It aggravated me beyond whats considered normal.



Cheating is a serious problem in CS...It is WAY TOO EASY to hack the Half-Life engine...there is no freakin' way CS will be cheat free.



I am deleting steam and all other VALVe products.

Well I'm a little late on this topic but I'll put in my 2cents.



America is a mixture of all countries since we are all immigrants unless your 100% American Indian. The problem isn't music, movies, or video games. It's the culture and the values our society is brought up in.



What has happened is newer generations have a lack of respect for human life. It's a lot easier to hide behind a gun then to fight with your fists. The problem with guns are the finality of them. There are no second chances. You don't get to lick your wounds to fight another day even if you were in the wrong in the argument. Some believe that taking life over a argument or stolen property is acceptable and that's where the problem lies.



The good thing about religion and religious values is that it teaches kids at a young age to value life and treat it as sacred. Nowadays America is becoming so secular they we don't need to pray unless something tragic happens. So society becomes more about "me" instead of "we". Towns and cities are so large you can't possibly care about everyone. So you just take care of yourself and who cares about everyone else.



Anyways getting back to the issue of guns, this probably wasn't the first time this kid pulled a gun and it probably wasn't over CS. If his team members were encouraging him to shoot and he did they could also be held criminally liable. It's not surprising because in a fight usually people gather to encourage instead of breaking up a fight so they can watch what happens.



Australia has a high murder rate, it's just with knives and clubs instead of guns since they aren't allowed to have guns. If someone wants to kill somebody they can usually find a way to do it. It's just that so many accidental killings are caused by guns since it's so easy to pull the trigger. At least with fist fights usually both get wore out quickly and the fighting stops letting the victim recover and go on with life. With guns your dead and you don't get a second chance.



Bottom line - We have to change attitudes of young teens. If they have no remorse or conscience over killing then no matter what the play, watch or listen to, will prevent them from killing. Also they need to control and release their anger in more acceptable ways. Plus with need to get the guns out of the hands of the teens. Parents are usually responsible for not properly locking up guns around kids.

I like how when something like happens everyone tries to explain their theories on guns and violence and how it relates to video games (one guy even started talking about columbine lol).

Carrying a gun as defense.. Personally I'd much rather a bullet proof vest for defense. People say they carry guns because they live in cities where they fear for their life.. Uhh if I thought I might get shot I wouldnt think a gun could stop a bullet from hitting me. I wonder how many times 2 people with guns for 'defensive purposes' wound up shooting at each other because say 1 person verbally threatened the other. Next someone physically attacks the other person which leads to someone pulling out their pistol to try and 'scare' the other person - only he has a pistol too and when he pulls that out you are going straight into your "Fight or Flight" reaction stage whether you want to or not and someone dies :) Personally I can care less if you own guns though it is your right to according to the constitution. Just don't kill each other too quickly or I won't have anyone to respond to my post.

Do you really think that a game manufacturer is going to stand up and say, "Yes, of course or games influence your children!" At that point they might as well just say, "Please! PUT US OUT OF BUSINESS!" You might as well quote R.J. Reynolds on the subject of how cigarettes affect your health. /sarcasm



It's just like the argument with television. Children learn by watching and then physically or audibly repeating what they have seen/heard. You cannot deny this, because that is how we have all learned. Remember doing multiplication? 2x2 is 4, 3x3 is 9? It's memorized, but only because it was repeated in front of us a thousand times.



If an unsupervised child is allowed to watch violent TV or play violent games they will learn violence. Period. BUT, if they have a responsible parent they will be taught the difference between these things and reality, socially acceptable behavior, etc...



I would never say that TV or games are solely responsible for violent youth (like this moron at CXG), but rather the parents of these people have failed miserably at teaching common sense.

I don't think it needs to be that serious. Online trashtalking is just that -- online. In real life it doesn't matter. Its just like playing a bit of basketball -- sportsmanship on the court means you get physical but sportsmanship off the court means you don't get physical. This is part of that whole responsible upbringing thing...
