Mark me down for using my fists. You're likely to be vastly underestimated, and a surprise move of the right type can disarm him and suddenly you have the gun and he doesn't. Or at the very least, you'll stay alive. If you have a gun, he won't stop and ask questions, he'll shoot you before you shoot him. If you don't have a gun, there's a chance he might tie you up or whatever and let you live (again, giving the chance for you to escape or counter his attack).

Now that I've gone through and read the first 90 comments, I've got my own word to say.



First of all, I feel that in America particularly (since that's where I live and that's what I can comment on), the education system is much less than par. Also, in several ways I do not approve of, Violence and access to examples of Violence are far too easily accessible by those far too immature to handle the knowledge.



'M' ratings, 'R' ratings, and 'Explicit content' mean nothing anymore. Parents are either completely tight and shut off, not allowing their kid to view these materials whatsoever, or completely lackadaisical and not caring what the kid is doing at all (either in belief that the kid can handle it, that it's not a big deal, or just no real love for the kid). Complete ignorance of these ratings can also lead to this.



The problem is not the Violence in the media. I personally feel Violence in the media is great, even something to be sought after. Because then it's in the media, where it does no real harm to anyone.



No. The problem is and always was with the lack of society's effort to raise children. In America at least, a child is almost 85% guaranteed to be raised by his parents (a guessed statistic, not an actual one). This means that the quality of the parents raising the child is usually the determining factor in the quality of the child itself.



You see a person pulling a gun on someone at a CS tournament today. I wonder what his child will be like. Chills you, doesn't it? It's situations like these that I wish the gene pool could be controlled. You can put the father in jail, but you can't make it illegal for him to just spawn a son who will do the same thing in a couple decades.



You can't remove violence from the media. First of all, the media just plain wouldn't do it. If you outlawed it, it'd get 'black market' over the internet and other ways. It just isn't possible.



Secondly, as I said before, it will only increase the real violence of people who were mature enough to let their aggression release into fake violence. Not all of us kids are physical enough to play football. But we're physical enough to buy a gun. Take away our explosions and gunfights in games and movies, and eventually that aggression will go somewhere. Perhaps nothing more than a riot outside the state capitals. Perhaps more. Again, it depends on the maturity of those involved.



So other than removing the violence, what options do we have? We have the option to tone down the violence. There's two ways of doing this. The first is to make violence more inaccessible (substantially increase the fines of the stores who will sell M rated games to kids). You can also have a small 'contract' each time an 'adult' game is purchased saying that the purchaser of the game takes complete and full responsibility for ignoring the rating and allowing anyone underage to access it. The same way that buying alcohol than walking outside and giving it to a kid can put the purchaser in jail as well as the kid. And the seller, too, if he knew about it or even suspected.



The second is to make violence less desirable. 'Rap' and stuff sells. CS sells. If someone can devote the time to making movies, for teenagers, that are interesting and can sell, without resorting to semi-mindless violence, that would go a long way to reducing amount of 'blackmarket' violence being spread around. Make something else better.



However, the true problem is not the violence, as no matter what we do, it will be a factor of the world, and people will get just as much violence watching the news as they would from any game or movie. The problem is that supposedly 'adult' media is being given to immature children easily. Part of the reason this is, is because the law determines a child is no longer a child simply by his or her age.



I personally see a lot of 13 year olds walking around in 17-24 year old bodies. I see a lot of 18 year olds walking around in 30 year old bodies. Maturity, and the ability to handle things of 'adult' nature, must be taught. You can't just expect some random day of the year, in which a person turns 18, to magically give him the knowledge, wisdom, respect, and maturity, to handle anything that comes his way.



I personally think that some of the older religions, or perhaps Indian tribes had it right. There must be a 'rite of passage', if you will, that determines whether the individual in question is worthy of access to the 'adult' side of things. Whether any given individual passes this test at 13, or 30, is up to how well they've been taught and how well they learned.



It's a shame that all of the options I list will never be taken in the foreseeable future. I wonder how far this problem will have to spread before something is seriously done about it.

When you talk about clan matches though you can see how it gets heated. I bet everyone at one point or other who has been playing online has wished to be able to get an address off of someone who has been cheating yada yada yada.



Was going to go ona bout the liberal gun laws (In relation to the uk of course) in the states but seeing as gun crime is on the increase over here ............



Just highlights though how imbalanced some people can be. Hope the scum bag who held the gun to the person head gets slammed away for a good while.

If he raised his child, yes. If he didn't, no. Just want to be sure you're not saying violence is genetic. There has been no proof of this that I know of, yet. :)

The fact that the crowd wanted the guy with the gun to pull the trigger sounds a little phony to me though. At least I hope that didn't really happen.

I wear a sidearm all the time. I have a legal carry permit from my state. I have been trained how to use my handgun and responsibly safely in all situations that I encounter. I would never pull my gun in anger over a VIDEO GAME. That is just pathetic.



No matter where I go, I am armed - and I have a legal right to be armed. The difference between myself (and others like me) and this stupid (getting raped ATM) jackass is that I learned that guns are not toys. You don't just pull one to make your dick feel bigger. What a tool - I can just see new legislation getting written as we speak right now.



I was raised with firearms present in my home at all times. I use them to hunt. I perceive guns as tools, not toys. Grow up you ignorant sons-of-bitches, it's time to get a handle on your emotional bladders, instead of just pissing everywhere.

Also, please don't act like America is the only country with weapons problems. You want to see some countries with real issues turn your attention to the Middle-East where children run the streets with AK-47's and are brainwashed into believing that everyone that does not live by the same belief system as them are the "devil". I have been there and seen it and it is a truly frightening sight.
