Wonderful. This is exactly the kind of press that anti-gamers and anti-gunners are constantly looking for. I'm sure we'll be seeing more of this in the news from both people who want stronger gun control, and people who feel violent games are the root of all evil. Unfortunately, we never see in the news things that gamers do like the toy/money drive by penny-arcade for the Children's hospital (http://www.penny-arcade.com/childsplay/) I'm sure the biased press will have a field day with this one. I really feel bad for those involved as well, especially the CXG, and the staff member whom the weapon was pulled on.



I hope the new zero tolerance rule will help keep "weapons" out of LAN play, but I really want to stress that the word "weapons" does not just mean guns. Should the angry player who pulled the gun have really wanted to hurt/kill the CXG staff member, and been unable to find a gun, he could have just as easily used a knife or even the tire iron from his trunk to cause physical damage to the staff member.



I realize that a large percentage of the gamer population leans more to the gun control side of the argument, and that's perfectly ok. I myself am an NRA member, and practice safe gun use at target ranges, and hunting every fall. I think it's important for people to remember that its not at all a factor what side of that argument your on, there are people in this world that own guns, and make sure that they are kept safe and under lock and key so no one with bad intent can get to them; there are also people in this world that have no business owning a gun, and will if need be, find other means to cause someone physical harm. The thing that must be focused on here is that it was the player who was clearly unstable and wanting to harm others, not the tool he picked to cause that harm.



I would also like to say that I find the many posts about Americans being "ignorant" or "stupid" just because we have the right to own fire arms, very offensive. While I know that we in America have a large number of people that shouldn't own butter knives let alone fire arms, there are a much much larger percentage of the people in this country that own fire arms and keep them and use them in a responsible way. Unfortunately, the press only sees fit to give news on the misuse of firearms because it does after all give better ratings. I know that a lot of you are from other places (outside the US) but I would just like to ask that you look at your own country before attacking mine. I know the US has a lot of gun violence, but so does the rest of the world. Perhaps not as many people involved, but then, America has a lot more people in it than some of the other countries that the forum members here are from. We're not perfect over her, and we have enough people here willing to prove it, but no one is perfect, and neither is any place. I grew up in Canada, moving to the States for family, and even in the very small town that I lived in, in Ontario, we had a couple of shootings. While not in my own town, CS-nation itself even reported this: http://csnation.counter-strike.net/viewnews.php/5675/ . An article about a shooting in Canada. This kind of thing happens because of unbalanced and angry people, not weapons or laws, and entire world has unbalanced and angry people.



Closing, I would again like to express my sympathies for those involved, I can only imagine what having a gun put to your head would do to you, I hope everyone is ok. I also hope that this kind of thing doesn't happen again, that the organizers of LAN tournaments learn from this and find ways to better protect the people that attend them in the future. God bless.

See, I don't understand how they can blame CS because of what happened. Kids bring guns to high school football games all the time... to school... everywhere. The problem isn't the game, its the gun in their hand, and the ignorance to use it.
