dont you remeber all those posts "the won servers are down, you are unable to authenticate"
Another huge flaw of Steam. Take the steam servers out and you down steam so people cant play. Funny how it never happened with WON - maybe Valve should take the hint; Steam isnt wanted.Comment

Total and utter TROUGH!
but you could still play lan, or with bots... or even single player HL.
Where in the name of sh*t did the beta bots Go? Commercial products...
And the current "patch a week" system makes it a nightmare to try and create plug ins, bonuses(like bots and other stuff, which is what we all love about CS (me anyway, and the fact I own my mate up and down! lol)Comment

Okay... unsecured servers can be full of headshotting speedhacking madness... but things have improved by many orders of magnitude since the presence of OGC8 and OGC9 in the days of CS1.4.
VAC working so well??? I see speed hackers in at least half of the pubs I join these days, other hacks just slightly less often. I don't blame Valve though, they do the best they can.
I think the more important deterent to cheating now is global, long-term bannage. It is my experienced opinion that most cheat users don't have a great number of CD keys to burn through. Further, they know that once they have used them up, they can't play anymore, legit or otherwise. In this way, VAC has been effective not only in catching cheaters but preventing people from trying cheats in the first place.
Certainly, advanced cheaters will almost always be able to bypass long-term bans in one way or another...

If we knew their address a simple call to the police would have them behind bars and that would be simpler
The reason for a company to not aknowledge a DoS/dDoS attack is because these people do like to say "look I'm l337 I annoyed thousands of people" and then other pityful types say "I want to be l337 too" and the result is clear.
The d in dDos stands for distributed btw, ie from multiple originsComment

Have you even been playing CS for long? WON was down so many times just in 2003, due to DNS changes or the servers being overloaded and whatnot. Hell, there's even been rumors of the WON servers being DDOSed a couple of times.
Honestly, how often do you remember WON being down? I remember it going down twice, for an hour each time.
I've found steam much more reliable with better uptimes, if you don't count the few weeks after they released it to the public, and the few weeks after the beta test started.Comment
