This proves that Steam is complete and utter garbage: when you centralize a network, things like this happen. When you centralize a network that is primarily used by teenagers and IMMATURE teenagers, you're creating a big sign that says "Go script kiddies! Go download a 'hack' to flood us."
What do you suppose WON was?

WON was completely different and ran nothing like STEAM.

Yes...its a giant conspiracy, they shut it down so CS players will leave the house and go outside to be kidnapped by the aliens.

Theoretically, WON is just as suspectable to such attacks, and everyone had to authenticate through WON in order to play online. If a DDoS attack was launched at WON, the same end result could happen.

VAC working so well??? I see speed hackers in at least half of the pubs I join these days, other hacks just slightly less often. I don't blame Valve though, they do the best they can.

I had troubles connecting too! Looks like I had to go into withdrawal.

BTW, it's "Sorry for the inconvenience".

Duh WON was through a different program... sheesh!!

                                Oh yeah..

Anyway, the point is, if the network wasnt centralized then ppl would run into problems with their friends not showing up because the servers dont really want to talk right now. That does happen now, but it would have a much higher potential of happening if it wasnt centralized. I dont believe valve even has the manpower to control a wide spanning database right now anyway.
