I think the whole solution to this is people need to spend a bit of cash and update their systems, cause u still dont need that much of a computer to play CS.
sure, but not evreyone has 5-6 hundred dollars or whatever insane price those things cost

well whats the reason in putting in weather to maps if everyone has cl_weather 0? The only people who have cl_weather 1 are either dumbass's who dont care about fps or the people with ATI Radeon 9800 Pros (which will be me soon but not yet :-/)
i have a Ti4400 and I run at 100FPS nobody on the screen, and about 80 in a firefight on aztec.

Half-Life (CS) is the Quake 1 engine. The problem with weather and other bs in this game is that they're trying to squeeze as much shit out of this 90 year old engine that wasn't meant to handle it.
        what.

It's the Half-Life engine. It has elements of Quake 1 (the original codebase) and one or two feature from Quake 2.

The bottom line is the code has been re-written and improved so many times it's nothing like the original.

If you don't like your fps in weather go replace your shitty geforce 2's.

Let me sum up the tutorial below.

Add the env_snow entity to your map to have snow

Add the env_rain entity to your map to add rain

I await their next tutorial, "How to change your name in cs 1.6"

Just don't add rain sounds and everyone will be happy. Nothing beats turning off cl_weather and still hearing the stupid rain.

Depends on what your definition of "improved" is. Maybe when it was first released, but since then, I'm seen more bugs and lag added. Games are suppose to be optimized, not killed.

funny cuz there is no env_snow or env_rain, u have to make it.

Well, if you have played CS for a long time, you would realise all the benefits that updates have made. Yes there are some bugs, but since we are not playing on consoles and everyone has different specs, its almost unavoidable.

First release of HL is what I was talking about. The engine has slowly been destroyed by VALVe IMO. What used to require a 166mhz, 32mb ram, and practically any video card, NOW requires over 1ghz, 256mb ram, and a GF4 and up. There are far less improvements made than just graphical enhancements and other crap. They still haven't even fixed the elevator lockup on original HL.

Hmm, thats funny. My 500mhz, 128MB RAM, 32MB Radeon runs it just fine...not 100FPS all the time but I don't expect that from 3 year old system

Woohoo! Thanks narby! I made my very first map today. It's quite an achievement really. But to anyone thinking about jumping straight in, I HIGHLY recommend you have some sort of plan ready for the layout.

Now I need to figure out how to do doors, ladders, roofs and skies. :)
