    Weather Environment Mapping Tutorial

VelocityX from CS Velocity has written up a new tutorial for mappers on how to add the new CS 1.6 weather entity such as rain or snow to your maps. The tutorial is very easy to follow, providing step by step pictures.

    Check out the tutorial here.

i wouldn't be advocating the use of weather effects in 1.6, kills our damn fps

Best place to start would be http://countermap.counter-strike.net/

By that logic, we'd all be playing Quake 1 to achieve the highest framerates possible.

Another good place to start mapping would be http://collective.valve-erc.com/

The VERC Collective has everything you could want to know about mapping, including a description of each individual entity, modding, modelling, and basically everything you would ever want to know about creating things with HL.

If you want some personal advice, start small. Don't build a huge map with tons of entities at first, because more than likely you will fail miserably. So many times people have come to me saying "why won't my map compile?", and I look at it to see a jumbled mess of bad mapping and screwed entities. Start small, build a small yard, then when that works, add a fence around it, and a pond, and some shrubs, and put in a house, add a door, windows, etc. Pick an entity you want to learn how to use and build a small map around it. Also, read as many tutorials as possible. Read every one you can. Learn how the compiling process works and how the Half-Life VIS process works.

Eventually you will be much, much better.

Sorry, I have reverted back to playing 1.5 and erased Steam. Now I'm having fun. Just don't bash me because I find that this whole 1.6/Steam isn't my cup of tea.

Narby, good work on all the new maps, but I just cant get a good feel on too much realistic map ...

Half-Life (CS) is the Quake 1 engine. The problem with me is that I'm a complete and utter fucking moron.

I think the whole solution to this is people need to spend a bit of cash and update their systems, cause u still dont need that much of a computer to play CS.

well whats the reason in putting in weather to maps if everyone has cl_weather 0? The only people who have cl_weather 1 are either dumbass's who dont care about fps or the people with ATI Radeon 9800 Pros (which will be me soon but not yet :-/)
