Hi we're VALVe, we like to connect the machine that has hl2's sourcecode on it to the internet. Also, we like to use hotmail to check our e-mails and hire a blind kid with arthritis to supervise security. Oh and by the way, we absolutely love asking the community for help when our dicks are on fire and not ask the community for any input on the stupid black shit we added to counter-strike.
Finally, we love to make obscene amounts of money on the 19 planned "versions" of hl2.

Flaming aside, i do feel sorry for them but how the let any access to the source-code POSSIBLE via internet is just beyond me. Wow.
At Valve, they would need to have a computer network.
On some of these computers they would have the source code.
This code is not directly accessible from the internet.
If you can get access to one of the machines on the network, you can get the code using the network.
One of the machines on the network that can access the internet was utilised to steal the code from another machine on the network.
If they only had the source code on a machine in a locked room with no network connections then I suppose the code would be secure.
But you can't exactly make a game like that can you einstein.
stoopid wrote..But valve can have fun with the perpetrators. After all, valve is full of programmers, and i'm sure they could screw them over if they felt like it........
In this light, it may benefit society that the perpetrators are caught and punished, but it will do no good to Valve.
rolled Nighthawk anyways:
