I don't see any really that bad about this.. what could someone do withe source code? It is copyright (or whatever the hell it would be) so that no one else can use it right? If anything this should teach you to un-install Outlook (which any moron knows), keep the computers up-to-date and don't have anything very very important on a computer connected to the internet.

For the first time I feel sorry for Valve. Well, maybe they'll take the hackers even more seriously.
All in all, I blame rizzuh. It's rizzuh's fault, and I dont see evidence to the contrary.
Consequently, everything is rizzuh's fault, even cancer.Comment

lol? read his email. It has been going on for over a year. The email hacking started in Sept 11, which was before the delay was announced. Valve announced HL2 delay last week.
Seriously that sucks bad, I hope noone passes that off as their own work. Years of work wasted to a few daft individuals. If other rival companies get their hands on this source, it could quite possibly mess up valve.Comment

Duh, I was just saying the code was in there, not any form of a playable application.
It's just the c++ code for the physics engine. It does make a cstrike and a tf2 folder on compile, but of course, they are going to use Source when it comes out. Nobody can play the game from what was released. Any game from that matter. It really just hurts the licensing of Source, as now everybody has it and some hack can pawn it off real cheap (or at least base what he does off of it).Comment

trust me, im sure its been taken care of in one way or another.
the main problem that will arise from this will be the cheats that are already being worked on, plus limitless cd keys.
multiplayer may be incredible, but its doubtful it will ever be cheat free
FUCK YOU WHOEVER DID THISComment

This really is a shame.
This is the kind of crap that gives cheat makers and all kinds of other not-so-nice people a head start towards messing the game up for the rest of us.
I have to say though, that I think its not entirely the hackers fault, some responcibility should be on Valve for not having better security given how popular all there work is.
I hope they find whoever did this...Comment

I think we're missing the most important part of what Gabe said.Gabe said...
I'm a big fan of VALVe.
What I'd appreciate is the assistance of the community in tracking this down.
I'm a big fan of Gabe.
If you hurt VALVe, if you hurt Gabe, you hurt me.
I'm up for some "tracking this down". Report the name of any linker you find. Eventually VALVe can work this back to whomever started it.
It's never good to piss off a community of FPS players.Comment
((( I thought it wasnt real but it is!!!! Omg...this cant be true
