Steam "Friends" Service

Update #2 @ 12:56 PM EST: Friends is up and running.



Yesterday, Chris Bokitch at VALVe informed us via a news article over at www.steampowered.com that the Steam Friends Service will be down on September 21st, 2003 and that it will be back online tomorrow (today). Chris states that when it comes back online that it will be "Stronger, faster, and better".



Unfortunately, due to Hurricane Isabel, I have lost power and cable internet (I am running "a" computer off of my truck for power and using AOL's excellent (pfft) dial-up internet). Therefore, I do not know if the Steam Friends Service is back online or not. I am sure one of the other wonderful news posters here at CS-Nation will edit this news article to let you know if it is back up or not.

Everything else on Steam is working great tho.

The Steam Friends feature is perhaps the coolest addition to gaming. You can just click on a person's name and hit "Join Game" and instantly connect. No searching Gametiger or ASE for that person, no need to spam IP addresses in IRC using HLSW, just a really simple and easy way to join up with your online buddies.



That being said, when it's down it really sucks.

Yeah, both of the servers that I used to have packed constantly are both dead now. I hope things will pick up soon =(
