    Help with Steam?

Guys, I know a ton of you people are having a difficult time with Steam right now. Just to let you know, the Steam Forums are back up. Feel free to post all bugs and suggestions in the official bug thread. On another note, the Official Steam FAQ is up, which answers a ton of questions you people are wondering. Heres a common question people have been wondering that has been answered in the FAQ:
How do I install and use mods in Steam?

If you have a Half-Life mod installed before installing Steam, Steam will automatically convert and install the game for you. It will then be accessible in the Steam "My Games" list under "Third Party Games."

If you want to add a mod after installing Steam, you need only to put it in the Steam/SteamApps/your_email_address/Half-Life directory. The next time you open the "My Games" list it will be listed under "Third Party Games."

Why cant sierra just do the basic update, its worked since first beta, why wouldn;t it work now? Even on 1.3 to 1.4 people were angry about the new jump, but they adapted.

I hope the "new" cs and steam are updated often...like in beta..i think it was awsome to have a problem and then in no time to have it fixed..instead of waiting months and months for a new patch...the one thing that i find annoying in 1.6 is the start round menus and buy menus being big black opaque screens...but other than that minute detail...rock on steam

Nope. They're taking WON down in a couple weeks. You're fucked.

WON is slowly going to be used less and less until it is all Steam, all the time. No alternatives. But yes, WON will be available for some time.

                      from the FAQ:

How can I have a LAN party or similar event using Steam?

Any Steam game, when played on a LAN or otherwise, requires that each individual client be able to authenticate via the Internet.

At a LAN party, this means that Internet access must be available to every machine on which Steam games are being played.

If desireable, the network administrator of such an event can limit internet access to only the TCP/IP ports which Steam needs. These are:

                      UDP 1200

                      UDP 27000 to 27015 inclusive

                      TCP 27030 to 27039 inclusive

At large events, it will be necessary for each attendee to let their games fully update before attending to avoid taxing the shared internet connection with too much content delivery.

                      --------------

Wow, you are right...that really is incredibly LAME...Why should one have to be connected to the internet to play a closed video game with friends...That sure burst any thin, unstable Steam bubble I may have had =(

Make more money, I assume...Thing is, we are the ones who will get screwed. Steam is not really any better for us, except in concept.

An update more then once every 2 years, but mainly they did it now instead of say, the 30th, is to set it up for HL2 by making the CS community have to bear the blunt of Steams unvieling.
