CAL Female Division Denied

Although highly debated, written on, and pushed for, the Cyberathlete Amateur League has voted for a no go towards a division meant solely for females and females only. The primary reason why this is so is simply due to how this type of "segregation does not advance the sport" in any way.

After careful consideration CAL has concluded that this type of segregation does not advance the sport. In fact, CAL management believes that one of the greatest characteristics of online esports is its enlightened disregard of all incidental differences between gamers. By ignoring things like: age, race, nationality and gender the sport remains accessible to all. Therefore, at this time CAL rejects the concept of creating an entire online division for female gamers.

I like CAL's thinking. What is the logic for an all-female league (or even all-female teams) anyway, other than the desire to only play females?

Anyway there's no sex sensor on my mouse ...that would have been hard to enforce IMHO.

I think CAL made the correct decision. Having a female-only league may make the notorious, lie-spreading, prejudice-creating, rumor-manufacturing, bias-ruled evil force known as the media mistakenly think that the sport of gaming is sexist.



I would happily welcome all females wanting to take up gaming and I would like to dispel the myth that games are a male-only phenomena.

Good going CAL.... I remember back a couple of years when a big UT league decided to start up a female-only thing... let's just say it didn't go down to well.

Good call, but why would they even consider banning the all female teams? I mean if they did that because they were trying to be "fair" to everyone then they would also have to ban the all male teams too, which would wipe out almost every team in the league. I think they made a good decision here by saying that they are not going to force you to add or remove this type of person or that type of person from your team.

I think its a womens only league is a bad idea, and their actions are justified. Stupid splitting into male and female, I thought women wanted to be classed the same as males these days anyway.

Good decision! There's absolutely no need for CAL to do this. Girls can join the league, they don't need special permits to play competitively. Good call.
