Only Steam is final. People seem to think this means 1.6 is final and therefore are overloading the Steam content servers by downloading Counter-Strike.

OK after playing 1.6 all night, i'm starting to really like the way it plays. Cbble, Inferno, and aztec look really godo after all the revamps done to them. But my one rant is the riot shield. I shot nearly 40 bullets at a CT and all he did was stand in the corner and take the shots and then got a deagle HS with one bullet.
So i look forward to any updates. Keep up the good work Valve.Comment

Despite normal half-life working for me, I can't connect to any of the servers (deathmatch) and I got a BSOD while I was at it :S Steam wouldnt be that bad if it just worked (and didnt need to download the entire game again and then some). I pray they re-think thier stance on messing with it :PComment

I wonder how many ppl had to copy the cs cache file from a friend (as I did) rather than through Steam themselves. I was too afraid to re-install Steam just to get the cache, mainly because it moved and deleted my old HL install. No telling what I'd have to "download" after removing all of whatever Steam did to it.Comment

Steam is overloaded beacause everyone is downloading Counter-Strike beta because it was not made clear that it is still in testing stages..
I was using Steam since the first Beta (not very stable) however, it was very stable during the last beta test. Almost all of the problems with steam is due to network overload, in the first day over 50,000 people downloaded it. Thats a LOT of bandwith.Comment

Fair argument, I'd just wish they would add a way to work off an existing install and not have to download the whole bloody thing again. That and fix the LAN play to not need the internet (kind of defeats the purpose of a lan party eh?). If they do that I'd be fairly happy.

i'm kinda fifty fifty with what borthaluv is saying and what trust is saying.
see, none of you have worked at Macy's before. the summer i worked at macy's of my freshman year in college, i realized the hard way that customers ALWAYS come 1st before anything. they'll insist on staying 15 minutes after the store closed just to argue on some clothes that aren't on sale. customers are really important and they'll usually tak the fucking hard work that i spent (4 hours before Macy's opened to restack the clothes and make everything neat, just to have to redo it by the end of the day) for granted. so therefore, we do have a right to complain for shitty service, brothaluv.
well, i don't think that trust should be so extreme on his views about how steam sucks. it does suck, but cmon, you fucking try working in a close nit group of about a dozen people at valve and you try feeling the pressure of maintaining 500,000 people dl'ing cs. they are already doing a satisfactory job, so if you wanna complain, go ahead and work for vavle and see if you can do a better job.Comment
