Ok, I've managed to get at least normal half-life to work with steam and I think the interface upgrade is nice but it does not really warrant a 430mb download that it wanted. What I cannot understand is why did it need to download the game that was already there? The game was already installed and patched to ver. 1110 so why not an incremental update? I feel bad for dialup users and those not in north america (broadband is not that common worldwide) seeing how just to play single player I had to download that huge chunk...

Now if I have to do this for the other mods... >

In the next version of steam they should include a control showing the percentage chance one have to:

      1. Download the steam files

      2. Install the steam files

      3. Create a steam account

      4. Access the steam account

      5. Play a game

Then when people see there is no chance, then they will lay off and wait until there is at least 50% chance.

Downloaded the big file and installed, but I cannot create an account as it shift between "you don't have an account" and "you already have an account".

      Wonderful

i think the main problem among all of the steam issues is impatience and lack of computer knowledge....1 when you click something once...it will open, dont click again or your going to fuck it up hence making it so you have to reboot to reset the values...2 for all those who didnt dl the cache files and are having problems updating your cs...here's the trick...right click the cs option in games and choose properties, than set it to so it auto updates...after thats done you may freeze DONT FREAK A.D.D. boy just wait...when your able to browse again log out...open up steam..go back to games and the auto update option should stand, you can check if you want, than double click cs....WAIT A.D.D. boy patience is a virtue...if your update download does not start within 10 minutes, LOG OUT not end task or exit, reboot your comp and try again, repeat process until it arrives, millions of ppl are updating this and millions of ppl take up bandwith so stop thinking that your the only one trying to update at that time, SOLUTION: dl the steam w/cache and still make sure you have yoru cs on auto update...i've been playing for days now np's when i get an error msg i ignore it(it only happened once) and try to start up again, if it dont work shut down and restart and it will.

            1) Get Steam working

            2) Delete the Shield from 1.6 and any version thereafter...

            3) And we'll be fine

This is great. Whenever I play CS via STEAM and exit, whole CS files are gone and tells me that I should download the content again.

              NICE JOB STEAM.

See, the the funny thing BruthaLuv is that I paid for cs, when I pay for something, it should work. Maybe you blow your hard earned cash on shit that's broken when you buy it, or mommy and daddy pay for everything for you. Didn't valve already try to release a beta of steam and it got fucked just as bad as this? Didn't they learn anything? Why isn't this stable or for alot of us, even slightly functional? It seems to me if you beta test something, that's so it works right when it comes out. I wouldn't be pissed if it was just slow or something minor, but considering not a single aspect of there new system works correctly for everyone seems to be a Big Fucking clue that valve didn't have every angle covered, for that matter, it doesn't seem they even did shit besides rename steam the FINAL STEAM and rerelease the beta. But your right, they already have my cash and so i can't do anything about it. I Guess i just might as well take it in the ass like you. doesn't it feel liberating to get fucked in the ass? They can't even release and update to an existing game with out huge problems, what happens when they try to force every one who buys HL2 into steam? I think i'm just going to hold out for doom 3.

The people at Valve don't listen to what the majority want they just figure change=good, their like fucking cave men with chalk, I wonder what moron said one day "I KNOW LETS TAKE CS AND MAKE AN UPDATE, WE CAN ADD 2 POINTLESS GUNS AND A BLACK RECTANGLE THAT STOPS BULLETS! THEN WE PUT ON THIS THING CALLED STEAM THAT NO MATTER WHAT ANYBODY DOES, NEVER WORKS CORRECTLY. THE GAMERS WILL LOVE IT!"

I am curious about somthing, I have been hearing alot that the content servers are at full and that is y it is slow and steam is going from working to not working then working then not (see it just now came up i hit before i started this lol) working and then not, only on steam website it says there are 5 servers that are really low like 28% 34% 2% 2% 1%, so does that really mean anything when steam just stalls all the time, I am just wondering.

Ok, so you paid what... thirty dollars maximum for Counter-Strike? And I paid somewhere from thirty to fifty dollars for Half-Life when it first came out. Good, so we are even on that point. Now, Steam is released and oh no, you have to not play for a couple of days because of it. Big deal. You aren't going to get any sympathy from me just because you can't find something else better to do but complain. Valve spent a lot more then the thirty bucks you put forth in order to supply you with the game you are whining about, so at least be a little grateful.

I like the 2 pointless guns and the black rectangle but Steam itself is too much.

How many times do I need to post this?

1.6 is BETA!!! TESTING!!! NOT FINAL!!!

Only Steam is final. People seem to think this means 1.6 is final and therefore are overloading the Steam content servers by downloading Counter-Strike.

Stop complaining about 1.6 beta and play 1.5 for the next week like you have done, or just stop whining! — Or as I like to put it "Cut the Crap"
