once again, i will reiterate a post i made earlier (post #518):
i just wanted to say, for all you skeptics out there (there are quite a lot of you obviously), steam will be a great thing. i know throughout these posts, many opinions have been regurgitated. the fact is, when steam was still in beta after the initial rampage to download everything at the same time (as we all are now), i had consistent updates of OVER 2MB/second...yes....thats MBs (on a cable modem). i believe the same will hold true once things begin to calm down. steam will indeed be what valve (and ourselves) hope and dream it to be. it will, however, take some time....time in which we need to stay patient.
yes, valve could have done this whole chaotic thing better....but its done now....lets ride the wave and help valve to make steam what we all want it to be.
if you feel otherwise, well....make your own damn game(s) then. in the least, for the love of all that is good in the world, stop bitching and moaning.
one other thing, ive seen a lot of questions posted here that are answered within this fine sites main steam info page. try THIS on for size before asking some of the 'simpler' questions. yes, you may have to READ something more than these (mostly flaming) posts, but it could actually be worth your while....what a concept.

to add to that post, for those of you getting errors (and i know this has been said time and time again), be patient, steam will work and it will work well. my first suggestion is to get the steam+cs install file. it is the only method i have heard from anyone that has worked (myself included). then, if it still isnt working after installing, kill steam and restart it...it should do the trick. ive been able to use steam/cs at will now for the last 18 hours or so....with no errors.
if ^^ doesnt work, again, be patient, and keep killing and restarting steam. it will begin again where it left off.Comment

They work fine if your extract the RAR files to the SteamApps folder. The only problem that comes into factor, once again, is the stress on the Steam servers. If they weren't so overloaded you would be able to open any game just fine after you downloaded and installed their cache files. I downloaded the DOD and CS files last night off of BitTorrent and I was able to play late last night when the servers weren't so bogged down. Today, I can't play and that's just the breaks because it's Sunday and tons of people are bombarding the servers.
O ya and bittorent fucking rules.

i really thing i fucked something up, cuz i can start cs fine. according 2 my friend who got the game working i get the right loading screen, but theres no menus on the side or nething, and then i just get a little error box in the middle on the screen that simply says "error" at the top and an ok button, that upon clicking whilie close cs and set my desktop 2 640-480 resultion. no idea wtf is wrong, but i dont think its the steam serversComment

I dont think i have any problems other then not being able to see ANY updating what so ever, i clicked on yes when i was prompted to update counter-strike(350mb) the msg froze for about 5 mins. and then dissapeared. Do you think its d/ling as we speak? I just did all this 10 minutes before i posted this.Comment

well at least i got farther the u did.
go 2 counter-hack.net (or counterhack.net) and find the link 2 the bittorent dl. it goes sooooo much faster and u know that its actually working. Then just extract the files into your steam/steamapps folder and then u hav all the data nessary. pray ur not like me and do all that only 2 hav it fuck up every timeComment
