ok listen the only games u ever pay for are games that only have a certtain number of servers and they all belong to the game . the thing abotu cs is that people make servers so u wouldnt have to worry about paying to play any time with cs unless teh decided to wipe all 25000 servers and make another 25000 just so u could pay
You won't be so calm when you have to pay 10.95 a month to play CS1.8.
-but hey what am I saying with fuckups like Steam I dont think CS well make it to 1.8.Comment

Valve couldn't have prepared for this enough. They did all they good, and i'm suprized everythings going as smoothly as it is. At least most of us have the update files now. It's going to be slow for the next week or so, and it's not Valve's fault people. If any of you ran the beta of steam and 1.6, when hundreds of thousands weren't trying to get it (even though they say they hate it), you'll have been playing what steam will be when the servers calm down. Steam runs smoothly, and is a better interface than 1.5's HL engine. Just give all the people some time to download it, you'll see in a week or 2.Comment

yea, kinda the same thing i did only once installed it works, but when i get outa it, it will not come back on just crashes, but if i erase everything and start agian i can play in about 10 mins, just sucks to have to reinstall every time i want to play
It took 3 or so days of testing things, but CS 1.6 is working. This is what I did:
1) DLed 500k Steam installer.
2) DLed "Steam install with cache files" off of bittorrent. (Use another mirror if you like)
3) Installed Steam, moved cache files into the SteamApps folder.
4) Opened steam, created account.
5) Set Half-life and Counter-strike to update automatically.
6) Waited until the status thing in the properties of CS said Ready to play.
7) Opened CS, closing the Games window.
8) Left it for 30 minutes.
9) CS 1.6 was ready to play.
10) It didn't take nearly as long to open CS the second time.
If, at any time, it seems to be frozen, like during the updating process or when you click a button, wait a few minutes. It is probably going to finish what it was doing. Closing it before it's done can cause problems.
I hope this helps.Comment
