Damn... whenever i try to log in into Steam, it says

and now after that error, it has says this:



"The Instruction at "0x01ae324d" referenced memory at "0x01dea6a0". The memory could not be "read" .



Click on OK to terminate the program"

also i want to add that the sheild doesnt give the ct's aadvanage they have good and bad poinst but mostly bad. the provide foward protection but u lose like 60% of yur vision so a person a sneak from the sides and attack from the back without u knowing it sinch u have tunnel vison.



well thats basically it. But y did they take out the bots in the LAN multiplayer mode??? the bots where great in the beta version, for example they have a bit of "common sence" a lot of human chareristics like hiding, burst, running with knife, and etc.

sigh so dissapointing.



o yea the setup also moved the map i had dl from 1.5 to 1.6 whcih was a life saver (i had over 61 non standard maps) so i ahve to give valve a hand for that idea

What about the Friends? I love it, you can chat with friends off and on a server. And the new server list is great, you don't have to wait for all the servers to be completed to see them.

Yes but does it ACTUALLY WORK???? in 80% of the cases no.



forgive me if i'm mistaken, but is a P4 3Ghz, 512mb DDR, geforce Ti4200 8x NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO RUN STEAM? What system CAN this shit run on?

Steam/Valve - Unprepared Again and Always

It took 3 or so days of testing things, but CS 1.6 is working. This is what I did:



1) DLed 500k Steam installer.

2) DLed "Steam install with cache files" off of bittorrent. (Use another mirror if you like)

3) Installed Steam, moved cache files into the SteamApps folder.

4) Opened steam, created account.

5) Set Half-life and Counter-strike to update automatically.

6) Waited until the status thing in the properties of CS said Ready to play.

7) Opened CS, closing the Games window.

8) Left it for 30 minutes.

9) CS 1.6 was ready to play.

10) It didn't take nearly as long to open CS the second time.



If, at any time, it seems to be frozen, like during the updating process or when you click a button, wait a few minutes. It is probably going to finish what it was doing. Closing it before it's done can cause problems.

I downloaded the original version of Steam (the one without the cached files) but since I'm on a 56K connection I can't download all the updates. My brother is doing that for me and I'm getting a disc with the cached version of Steam on Monday. Then I can either agree or disagree with some of you about it.



You have to have at least some sympathy for Valve and Steam, though - there are hundreds of thousands of people worldwide trying to download this. Who ever expected it all to go smoothly? I'm sure in a week or so everything will be back to normal, and Steam will show it's true potential.

i got an email from valve saying that the HL platinum pack CD key that i entered is invalid



I didnt even enter a CD key!!!



where are u supposed to put it in?

i just get stuck on "Preparing to play Counter Strike"

mm i find some of the sycophantic views about valve .. A bit puzzling



lets look at steam release as a whole.... the supposed incremental upgrade system ?



1. how was it implemented, up until release infact even after release no one could tell you wether ,1.6 was final or not and no one had a clue about wether hl was being updated ..not a single word from valve on that ..poor pr at least ? and even on the steam page it still says 1.6beta ?.....



2. the incremental system would work , but it seems we are back to splurge updating flinging big chunks of data all at one time ...eh so what is the differnce from won ...oh now when updates come even those who have got the update will have difficulty playing ..... how I thought it would work small updates split over a month client and server ..server get a 10 mins reboot each day to update ..clients update as the join with small changes split over a month ie 1.5 -1.6 takes a month ? that way there is no bandwidth crisis everytime updates or new titles come out ...



3. how will steam problems effect HL2 and will we see another bandwith crisis when that it is released, and god knows what will happen if a lot of people buy it through steam = bandwidth crisis ..........



4. 4 days after launch we are still stuck in a bog ....with little or no feedback from valve ...and now with steam if i want to play sp hl i have to fire up steam ......so does that mean if steam goes down i can no longer play hl sp ????



5. we did a trawl of 1.6 servers last night , and it is full of 1.6 cheaters ...which cause vavle has it's head up it's arse over steam...I dont see much happening on that front ..lets hope a steam version of CD or the likes takes up the challenge.....anybody on vac admin list will tell you valve is decidedly slow on action big on projections.



6. almost all players want the shield ethier tweaked or removed as it is killing 1.6 ...yet do valve listen ...........



7. Nobody form valve has said wether those who dont pay for the content ...will be at the back of the que...and with steam are we locked into retial version of mods .



that is just a few points to bored and fed up to go on....but as a paying customer i.e i have already bought numerous HL titles I as a consumer have the right to reply .....



one comment that cheered me up was "if it takes to long dont download dod .just cs" why i play them all it is a bit like going into mcdonalds asking for a big mac and being told your burgers is ready but unfortunatley it will take to long for your bun and salad ...so here is two flat burgers on thier own...well with won I could choose now it seems in steams court ?

it was made by DodgeThis from www.aixgaming.com , he was nice enough to zip it up into a 265 meg file, a bit smaller than what you guys are downloading :p Hope it helps, its got a lot of downloaders right now so it should be relatively fast, and only grow when more of you try to download :)
