    Gamespot Impressions Of CSX

The guys at Gamespot recently wrote up a small preview of the upcoming Counter-Strike for Xbox. Apparently, Cliffe made a personal appearance at the Gamespot offices and brought along a demo version for them to try out. A snippet:
...We got to play on three maps: Dust and Italy, which should be eminently familiar to longtime CS players, and Vostok, a snowy demolition map made especially for the Xbox game (of the 20 maps that will initially be available, seven are Xbox-exclusive). The two old maps played very much like their PC counterparts, though they looked a lot more detailed. Cliffe pointed out that the Xbox version uses 24- and 32-bit textures instead of the 8-bit palettized ones found on the PC. From our brief time with it, Vostok also seemed to be a well-made and CS-like map, with plenty of cover to duck behind and a mixture of tight passageways, balconies, and open courtyards. More maps should be available, via Xbox Live updates, sometime after release.
From the looks of it, they were pretty impressed with what they saw. Point your browser here for the rest of the interview.

I still don't think it's really worth playing FPS's on consoles...

CSX will allways be a neutered version of CS. How many maps will have to be redesigned or simply left out because 'looking' up or down is crap using a console controller ? Hell of course they can do dust, even itally to a degree... but even that will suffer. The the Window near the CT spawn, waiting for the Terrs to come, you need damn fast reflexes to look up and fire, even with a mouse

You need damn fast reflexes to compete with other people who have damn fast reflexes. Remember, they have to look up to shoot you, like you have to look down to shoot them. That's what right thumbsticks are for. Console players are no match for pc players, but console players can play with console players.

To hell with CS:CZ... i dont even believe it exists...

sure, fps are better on the pc... but wat's wrong with playing them on consoles... i thoroughly love Halo.

              ooo... Halo~~~ ooo...

Urgh, the default Halo controls were awful.... I sure hope they let you change the control set-up in CSX.

Well anyway, it' s looking good. I think once CSX comes out I'll just leave CS(PC) alone and stick to CSX

Ugh... I don't even want to debate this... are you siriously saying you'd prefer a console control to a keyboard and mouse for a FPS?

One thing I will say is that while the gameplay looks like it will be great, and the map textures look really nice, I am really disappointed with the modeling of the p/w/v skins and also the player skins IMO. They are pretty low poly - there may be a reason like FPS and whatnot - I'm just saying. The walls look so good - what's with the gun/player skins?

First of all, I am a PC gamer. I play games on my PC way more often than my consoles. But I still love playing my consoles. I think Halo is one of the best games avaliable right now, at least console wise. It's fun to play, and by the looks of it, CSX will be too. I personally am looking forward to it.

Yup, I think CSX will be a succes, simply because CS is such a big name now.. And another advantage of CSX is that it's completly free of online cheats.. But I'll still prefer CS on my PC, just because I'm used to it.. Halo was very good indeed, the only Xbox game I have I really finished..

Remember that CSX isn't just CS on the XBOX - it looks a whole lot better because all the maps have been given a facelift, and the models and sounds all take advantage of the native XBox hardware. Plus, you know you're on the same level as every other CSX player - it's an even playing field, since you all have the same hardware.

I'm actually really looking forward to it, even though I suck at Halo and stick to Sega GT... (just as well it's my lil brothers XBox)

Why cant they update CS 1.6 to be as pretty as CSX? Most real gamers hardware is better then whats in an Xbox anyway.
