Ugh... I don't even want to debate this... are you siriously saying you'd prefer a console control to a keyboard and mouse for a FPS?

Thats one of the reasons CS is so popular now though, you can play it on a lot of computers even if they aren't built for gaming. If they made it a high-end high poly game then they would lose a lot of the community. Some people aren't as fortunate as us to have a nice PC that we can upgrade regularly, so CS is the solution. I'm not trying to say CS sucks though, its currently one of my favorites along with BF1942, UT2003, and PlanetSide.
Why cant they update CS 1.6 to be as pretty as CSX? Most real gamers hardware is better then whats in an Xbox anyway.Comment

The whole thing is that CS on PC is good in terms of compatability and scalability, better for your low-end PCs. On the other hand, CSX for the XBox looks a whole heck of a lot nicer, but it only depends on one certain set of hardware (consider the XBox an equivilant mid-range PC). I wonder if the 8-bit color thing they mentioned in the article is dependant on the engine. If it's not, it shouldn't be that hard to make some new 24 or 32 bit color schemes for the |337 people with non-sucky computers, and then be able to scale them down to 8 bit if your computer sux. Maybe that's half of what CZ is about in the end. Snarf.Comment

8-bit palletized textures are part of the HL engine, however I have a feeling there is a little more to the upgrade then just that. 8-bit palletized textures sound really low quality but in actuallity, they more than do the job 70% of the time. More likely then not the maps are just quite a bit higher poly and rely on far less texture streching, making them look far cleaner.Comment

i heard they were asking if it'll be possible to have PC CS players play together with XBox CSX players (on the same server), but i guess the answer to that is no?
also, where will the [good and fast] dedicated servers be hosted? i'm thinking XBoxes are out of question (who would want to leave their xbox on 24/7 and not use it; besides XBox live cable just won't cut it for 32 player servers), so it'll either be servers hosted on PCs or at Microsoft somewhere (not likely for various reasons; besides what about servers in other countries?).
thought for good. goof. food. though for. foog.Comment

It's been a "no" since day one, dude. I can't count how many times I've heard that question.
