    Steam HLDS Released

The Steam dedicated server update tool has been released on both the Linux and Windows platform. You can pick them both up at ftp://hlserver:hlserver@ftp.valvesoftware.com/. Once downloaded and installed refer to hldsupdatetool_readme.txt for information on setting up a Steam dedicated server.

Note: You do not need to download these files unless you plan to run a Steam supported game server. The Steam client should be released around 11 AM PDT tomorrow due to delays.

Finally released, i hope people gets lots and lots of servers up for the release tommorow so not every single 1.6 server is full. I hate it when that happens after an update, you're all ready to play but every single server in exsistence is full of people already.

Yes, I remember how that would happen every time a new version of CS was released... same with DoD.

I believe so, only people running the 1.0 Final version of steam can now connect to your server.

ok just checking. now all we have to do is wait for a command line way to restart steam, support for non-steam mods, support for custom skins/models, fixing the plugin sound lag spike, support for dial-up players, and a way to block constant updates from breaking server plugins. woot!

Well I'm glad to see Valve released this today, they probably would have suicide bombers at thier office if they didn't so kudos to Valve. I just hope they can fix they Steam problem or they might have some problems.

Didn't the steampowered website say that it would work for 56k users earlier today when the site still said that steam was going to be released at 11PDT? I think it did and they just reverted back to the backup of the old page and never added the "works for 56k users" part back in. Someone else please tell us if they remeber this too because i'm not sure.

THe problem is most likely already fixed, they just don't want to release it now because the public would have no warning and then everyone would just screan "OMG V4lve YoU Mor0ns i d1dn'T get A l0w stEam1D beCaUse yu0 gAv3 m3 n0 w4rn1ng." They don't want to give people more things to whine about :P

What is it evec valled then? Whats wrong with each version starting with a 1? People shouldn't update ALL servers now because untill WON is shut down people will still be playing 1.5 and be needed servers. In fact most people will probably stick with 1.5 untill they are forced to go to steam and play 1.6B.

hehe LOL, if you check the readme, it tells you how to create a brand new Steam ID, so if that worked im guessing i got a pretty low ID#, hmmm

it's been called three different things by three different sources because nobody has a clue what the hell VALVe is doing at this point.
