No, this is for the SERVER not the client. The account you create will only have access to server content and not client authentication access with a SteamID.

To access the client stuff you would have had to enter a working CD-Key.

You cannot create a Steam client account using the server software

Yeah i was just saying that is how you can tell you won't have access to client stuff with that account, it never asked for a CD-Key.

I think it's because they use their 4 year old game and people who haven't paid a dime since their initial purchase as guinea pigs for future product development. Because hey, it's all free. One would hope that there would not be this kind of hysteria and confusion surrounding the HL2 release.

i don't have any problem with valve trying to make money off their products. what i do have a problem with is that the people who've been playing it for years and even set up servers and whatnot are getting shafted by all this extra pay, inet needed, content servers down, this game is not available bullshit.
