I think I like the excitement of just single-elimination. It's like the NCAA Basketball Tournament. Mistakes are costly.

But on the other hand it's cool, and can allow for more competition. It certainly prolongs the event and the excitement.

It might even be more fun this way for the participants.

      Serious Sam wrote..

Uh lockhart, such practicing is not allowed at this cpl event. That's why I pointed it out.

Unless they have practice computers which they do not mention.
Thats really lame.. there are a huge variety of mouse settings and switching computers can really screw someone over. I know playing on my friends computer, even with my mouse headphones and keyboard, I'd be screwed over because I just cant get the same feeling or make the reflex shots that I do on my computer

They have time to get their sensitivity and such the way they like it. Have you ever watched a CPL match on HLTV? There's probably a good 20 minutes from the time the first person connects to the server to the time the match actually starts. Even 5 minutes of just finding a feel for your sensitivity is plenty, I don't know why they would need a full scrim, unless you're coming off a very awful computer at home which isn't the case with most players.

You can bring your own computer (BYOC) and practice with it in the BYOC area provided. It's not like you plugin to your match computer, sit down, and then the match starts.

has any1 else noticed how with every year, the CPL are using even faster and faster computers? (no doubt to fuel intel's marketing campaign). you only need like a 1ghz athlon tbird with geforce2 GTS TOPS, to play CS at 100fps all the time. Esp. with 5v5, theres not a lot happening so you probably dont even need those specs i just mentioned! maybe lower. not p4 3GHZ with rediculously fast video cards. i mean cmon! the CPLs overhead for equipment will be so much lower if they used computers from a few years back. but who knows, maybe intel is giving them to them for free? but then i would say to intel, guys, just give us the money, we already have pcs fast enuff to cope with CS. we dont need your p4 3ghz machines.

the things that need real upgrading are the servers, since lowering pings with every year is always a good thing :)
