German CS:CZ "Review"

German magazine Gamestar has 'reviewed' Counter-Strike: Condition Zero (only a print version is available, no scans/web article yet). Sebastian Herbst tells CS-Nation that CS:CZ received an embarrassing 59/100, while CS 1.6 received a 88/100. Sebastian tells us that the magazine says that "CZ has dumb enemies" and "boring levels," and that some mods "are better than CZ."



Of course, neither title is done. Gamestar, like some other European gaming magazines including most of the British gaming press, "reviews" incomplete versions of games.



Although we should keep that in mind, it is unlikely that VALVe has been able to fundamentally improve all the gameplay over the last few months. For the few of you still looking forward to CS:CZ after all these delays and such, I guess you can look forward to a mediocre game coming soon.

I think that Gamestar does some cool video things, but I (of course) don't know whether or not their reviews are trustworthy. At this point, with a total of 0 positive CS:CZ 'reviews,' it's less about the magazines and more about the quality of the game.



So what did you choose for the poll? I think that the engine hurt the game from the start. Developer switches played their part, but the game wasn't turning out well at either Rogue or Gearbox.

yeah, exclusive, and cool.

I bought it last month, because they said theres an EXCLUSIVE HL2 TRAILER on their cd [pic], and it was the E3 cam stuff. They also PREviewed gearboxs cz last year, that was a crappy article too. gamestar is one of the worst printed things out there.

I don't really care that magazines review unfinished games, as they are probably a very good indication of how good the game is actually gonna be.

If they had waited for it to come out, they might have given it a few percent more, but either way, I'm still gonna buy it to see for myself.

The poll question is kind of generalized, so I voted for what hurt it as far as how well it will sell. I think that the delays have hurt it the most in that regard. If it would have been out 3-6 months ago the engine wouldn't have mattered, as long as people thought it played well. Now being so close to HL2, I think the engine does matter since the HL2 engine will be so much improved.

The reviews don't really affect me, either. I have to play the game because I run a fansite that covers it. I'll probably review it and make the review a bit funny, like the CS classic review.

Well rizzuh, do it, at least some good will come out of this. I think Valve should release CZ for free on Steam, would be fun :)

Look rizzuh you can bitch about them reviewing incomplete games, but these are games submitted to the by valve. Valve wouldnt submit them for review if it was incomplete.

I also voted for the HL engine hurting it the most. While it has produced several great games, it is aging and everyone can tell. Developer switches definetely haven't hurt the game, as what Gearbox was doing was utterly horrible. Rogue never really got a chance to do much with the game, and not much press was released about their version. Hopefully the long delays have been worth it, and granted needed time to make the game better. Everyone probably should've voted the comedy option.

new developers: they made the game better (as i can see it from screenshots)



hl engine: both me, and my good friend, Mr. 'h4xb0x' Computer likes it.



delays: thats a big problem, I have nothing to do, and cs1.5 is a bit boring after a year+.

I want the game.

It's not here because the delays. and the new delevlopers. and because they want to make the hl engine better. or they just made some sreenshots/videos on CS1.5 custom maps with custom models.
