Hey everybody, look on the bright side maybe the team at Valve that's touching up CS:CZ will read these reviews and try to fix some of the problems that were mentioned in them.
Like the fact that you can't pick up your enemy's weapons, I mean that's half the fun of CS...
AhHaHaHa! I just killed that guy! Look he dropped his FA-MAS I'm gonna pick up his gun and use it to kill his teammates! AhHaHa I am so 1337! Hey look there's one now! Eat lead pig! *click* *click* wtf? There's no ammo in it! AHHHHHHH! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! Oh great now I'm dead, who the hell buys a gun and no ammo!
...See your gonna miss all that fun Condition Zero.Comment

Publisher = Vivendi Universal
No, it wasn't submitted to them by Valve. The publisher of the game gave it to the magazines. The game isn't complete; if it were we'd be playing it right now since magazines take weeks to print and distribute.
Vivendi Universal = European arm of Sierra
My bad, you know what I meant :) Still, what im trying to say is, if VU thought it wasn't ready, it wouldn't be in the magazines. Now I can appreciate what your saying if this was a 'test' or beta, but its not. Face it, 3/3 magazines, and all of them say the game smells.
I don't think CZ will be a *bad* game, just not a great game. Perhaps good for a little playabout on a Sunday afternoon or something, but definately not that game that keeps you going into the wee hours.Comment

It seems like publishers tend to be a bit presumptuous. They also get way too much credit. I noticed in a top sellers list yesterday that it listed the publisher names rather than the developer. I don't care who publishes a game, what I care about is who develops it and how well it plays, looks, ect.
Okay, enough ranting from me.Comment

Reviewing incomplete games just to get those precious
EXXXCLUSIVES is pretty damn pathetic. And besides,
they claim to have something they don't. They're lying.
About the engine:
Would it be Counter-Strike if it was done with the Unreal engine?
I don't think so. I'm not denying that the HL engine is old as hell,
but CS just wouldn't be the same without it.
I don't really have any complaints about Counter-Strikes current looks (okay, the weapon W/P models look terrible in comparison to the player models), it's the gameplay that I like the most.
I think it was kind of a chain reaction: the engine wouldn't be a problem if the game wasn't so horribly delayed, and the game might have not been delayed so much if it wasn't fot the developer changes.
Anyways, I voted for developer changes.
Should've just stuck with Gearbox.
I think they proved themselves more than capable in using the
HL engine with Opposing Force and Blue Shift.
Don't take it so seriously, I don't ;PComment

They lost interested because they were busy with porting Halo onto the PC, and damn does it look sexy.
Can't help wondering why it even left gearbox. Does nyone know the reason? Like they screwed up some contracts or something, it surely can't have been gameplay.Comment

For what it's worth, i was reasonably excited about the game when it was being developed by Gearbox. Progress seemed pretty rapid, and the content looked good. The project seemed to have some soul, and the developers seemed keen on making it fun and replayable.
When it transferred to Ritual, it seemed to lose all of that. Aside from Sin, i don't recall them making a single game which stood out from the crowd. They make capable games, they make solid games, they make games on time and on budget - But they don't make great games. Nothing about Elite Force II, FAKK 2 or Blair Witch stood out at all. With a history of mediocrity, i'm not sure that CS:CZ ever stood a chance. Not only did the new content they produced look shabby, but it seemed as though Valve were hurrying them along - And rightly so.
I don't blame Ritual, and i don't blame Valve. They made the decisions that they felt were right at the time, and that's that. I'm sure if they could do it all again, they would - but they can't. I agree that a community led effort could have succeeded, but we'll never know. I'm saying all this from the outside, so it's difficult for me to know for certain if Gearbox would have done better or worse. I can only say what i think.Comment

I read the UK PCGamer review of the game, and regardless of whether the review code is final or not, I tend to trust their reviews, and eevry game they have gone out on a limb to promote is a classic in one respect or another, not just another magazine who says "wow, u can, like, blow shit up, and there's gore, and like that bit where u kill the room full of Iraqi's.....wooooohoooo!!"
They give one example of how much the ball has been well and truly missed in that review. In a mission, you cannot pick up any other guns or EVEN AMMO!
Imagine youre playing CS, lumbered with an empty MP5. Around u lie all the bodies and AK47's of the t's you just slaughtered, theres one awper left and you cant use anything except USP or knife. Any developer that thinks up that situation and says "yea, put that in the game" has missed the point of CS entirely. I am now starting to wonder whether the peon who coded that into the game has ever actually PLAYED online CS....
[edit]Oh yea, Uk PCGamer gave it 65% :/ [/edit]Comment
