Employee at Vivendi, that has asked to remain nameless, told me. Though it will be out this year.

I hope you guys remember hl:1 was delayed from a 97 release date to a 98 realease date.... this saved the game many people said.
The game will come out when it comes out. And guess what 99% of you are still going to buy it even if it comes out a month or two late, so just STFU. The release date wouldn't be pushed back just for fun, they have a good reason whatever it may be. That is why they are Valve and you are the ignorant consumer. If it comes a little late, it is probably for our benefit anyway. Hell, I'll take it in spring '04 if it means that it will be squeaky clean with almost no bugs at all. Better than coming out tomorrow with the annual 2-times a week patch (like EA). Just settle down, it will come when it comes. Your whining will accomplish nothing.Comment

Delaying for new cd-key implemenation? Fucking stupid.
It sounds like vivendi is doing this so they can make more money. That would make sense since Gabe N. seems in the dark about all this (if that email is legit).
I know they want to protect there product from piracy but delaying a game just for this....*anger*
I hope this is all turns out to be BSComment

How do you figure they are making money by _delaying_ the product???

If they officially announce the delay I will be dissapointed. I really hate when they put a date out ther and the push it back. It would be better to just say the game will be out in 20 years (ok, im exgerating) and keep moving the date closer (basically vise versa of what they're doing right now)Comment

That would be a rather stupid move on Vivendi's part considering Valve will more than likely release HL2 over Steam as soon as they feel it's ready. I doubt Vivendi would be making the decision to delay if such a decision has been made. I believe it's up to Valve.
