    HL2 Delayed?

GameSpot and GamePro and a few other places are reporting that Vivendi Universal, the publishers of Half-Life, have informed them that Half-Life 2 will not make its previously announced Sept. 30th release date. The new date being touted is "Holiday 2003," which would mean that for many of you, the game may be ornamented with festive bows and teddy bear wrapping paper while sitting under an indoor evergreen tree this winter.

If true, 36% of you were right. That's a better percentage than most high schoolers would get on a basic geography quiz, so congratulations may be in order.

Update: This still hasn't been confirmed by Valve, and shouldn't be considered official until they respond.

    HL2 Delayed?

Half-Life 2 has been delayed until at least April of 2004, according to a Vivendi rep. The catalyst for this delay, Vivendi says, is the recent HL2 source code leak.
"A third of the source code was stolen. It's serious because it forces us to delay the launch of the game by at least four months, that is to April 2004. Just the time to rewrite parts of the game," VU Games president of international operations Christophe Ramboz told daily Les Echos in its Tuesday edition.

According to Les Echos, a hacker broke into the email of the game's developer, Gabe Newell, the founder of VALVe Software, and planted a spying program.

The delay is bad news for VU Games, which suffered a 29 percent fall in revenue and an operating loss of 52 million euros in 2003's first half and was betting on swift holiday sales.

This is the second time the game's release has been postponed.
    Here's the Reuters story.

          Hot-diggity damn.

Will Half-life 2 suffer the same fate as CZ? Will HL2 or CZ ever be released or will they get washed down the preverbial toilet seat? Is there a reason why a fish keeps running across under Rizzuh's name as his avatar?

I'm so shocked that HL2 is delayed. *note sarcasism* After CS 1.6 has been in beta for what 6 months.

Not surprised at all about new CD key system. It's their way of making more money and preventing people from just downloading it and using their current HL CD keys.

.....then when we still havn't heard anything by January, Erik leaves Valve for Sony. The project carries on for another year due to "balancing issues", then as it's about to go gold Doug Lombardi announces that the whole project is to be scrapped, and is to be started from scratch by Peter Molyneaux's Lionhead Studios. With a Brit in charge, the project is completed within it's stated timescale of 6 months, everyone loves it, the game runs on 486's with full DX9 support, and the UK is truly "teh win" once more
