I'm just wondering if when the game comes out will it be possible to clear the single player without shooting any enemies. Instead just shooting obstacles like exploding cans and that crane arm in the Trapdown vid.

If you can do that, Jeeeeeeeesus Christ! Fun times will be had by all...

in simple terms, its the smoothing out of the jagged edges u see on tilted lines on computer screens. it looks very nice, but theres a large performance hit when this feture is turned on.

Anti-Aliasing is where your computer (be it your CPU or your video card) goes over the images that appear, and cleans up the edges (because they are made of a bunch of triangles and whatnot).

                It's best to see examples.

well we can be most certain that ID software will license out their doom3 engine (i dont remember what its called) for mega bucks. the quake3 engine alone costs $250,000 to license out.

valve havnt licensed their HL1 engine out (a mistake im sure) but they will definitely license out the source engine, if they havnt done so already.

some critics have said about quake3 thats its not a game, but an engine, i for one disagree, q3a is a great game and very enjoyable for all the blood and sensless violence! :)

some of u have pointed out that the physics isnt entirely accurate, this is true, ive noticed this in the videos as well. computers dont model the real world very well but at least for valve its a big step in the right direction. with valves incredible level of support of the game beyond its sell by date (patches updates etc) we can be sure that valve software engineers will keep tweaking the physics engine to make it look as best as it possibly can be :)

doom3 however doesnt have an impressive physics engine, but only from what i can tell during the game alpha test demo. its good, but not as interactive as the Source engine, imho. who knows, maybe ID have something up their sleeve and doom3 turns out to be a rediculously super scalar engine with 'infinite' possibilities.

Instead of all this HL2 media, which I do NOT want to spoil my game, I'd rather VALVe would work on making FireArms mod on Steam faster(which already has a server up btw) and maybe DoD on steam (which would also be really cool but I haven't seen any servers yet).

yeah i kind of thought of not watching them for fear of spoilage, but it just looks too good to miss!!!!!!!!1111111

hopefully what we see in the videos wont be exactly the same in the real game. just like valve did with the demo of HL, which had nothing to do with the real HL itself.

If you mean what I think you mean, those maps were just for e3. They wont be in final game. They MIGHT be included as a bonus. :/

No I was being serious. I think Doom3 will look better for two reasons, illustrated in a nifty list:
» John Carmack does a video game engine good.

» Art direction for Doom3 will inherently make the game better looking.
While HL2 is always trying to look it's best, it really shows what it's made of when looking at gameplay, story, characters and character development, AI, and ingenuity. Doom3 is a game meant to scare people. That puts lots of pressure on the graphics side of the story-telling.

Here's two screenshots (probably subjectively chosen). One from Doom3, and another from HL2. In my mind, Doom3 wins. Source really feels like a (nicely refined) updated Half-Life (ex Quake) engine.

To the flames I'll be getting: Blah blah blah, I know nothing. The games aren't even out yet. I'm talking through my armpit.

It's my opinion. I can have that if I'd like.

It is hard to say which engine is better alot has to do with the textuer artists...
