Based on what I've seen, I have to agree there. I've watched the first two HL2 movies and I was impressed, personally. I will definitely be getting it. You really can't knock something until you try it, and though the videos are supposed to give us a preview of the game, we can't make any true judgements until we see the actual game.

I know I've seen this Doom 3 vs. Half-Life 2 arguement somewhere before...



It's just going to matter about what single player experience caters to you the most. Doom 3 is going to be a "shoot everything that moves" type experience with atmosphere really messing with your mind. HL2 is much more strategic in terms of using your environment to help you out because you don't have to shoot everything in site. Maybe flip a switch and watch blades spin.



For me, it's a matter of what mood am I in today? Do I feel like blasting everything in the shadows or crushing baddies with some sweet physics? Both games look beautiful and will be on my shelf the day they come out.

I'll probably buy both games as well but as far as I'm concerned, HL2 will bring more to the plate. Doom 3 I will enjoy for a while...but then forget about after beating it. HL2 will most likely have the same replay value that HL1 has (I'm sure it will). I just find the story is more interesting and easier to get immersed in.

some of the mod models are amazing, i'm afraid that many mods will die and the pretty models will go to waste :-(

It strikes me that a lot of people are going to miss out on the fun of HL2, because they're going to be too wrapped up in the modding possibilities. Take the mods currently in "development" for HL2 - Why not hold off until you've actually played the game and seen what it offers? I went through a stage a few years ago when I couldn't really play games without always thinking "this machine was made in X way, and this entity was required for Y", such is my desire to build and create.



But just recently, over the last year or so, i've begun to appreciate games again. Having fun, enjoying them as a games player and not a mod maker. People who've already set up teams, drawn up design documents, and assigned roles are really missing the point.



It's Half-Life 2, it's a game. Play it, and learn to enjoy it like I have. It's amazing. You should try it some time.

In the past year only a couple games actually have a great single player aspect to them. In those couple, Mafia is one of them. Without a strong multiplayer base, however, you just simply get bored of it. Having a multiplayer aspect to a game has almost become a requirement if you want some replay value...
