No I was being serious. I think Doom3 will look better for two reasons, illustrated in a nifty list:
» John Carmack does a video game engine good.

» Art direction for Doom3 will inherently make the game better looking.
While HL2 is always trying to look it's best, it really shows what it's made of when looking at gameplay, story, characters and character development, AI, and ingenuity. Doom3 is a game meant to scare people. That puts lots of pressure on the graphics side of the story-telling.

Here's two screenshots (probably subjectively chosen). One from Doom3, and another from HL2. In my mind, Doom3 wins. Source really feels like a (nicely refined) updated Half-Life (ex Quake) engine.

To the flames I'll be getting: Blah blah blah, I know nothing. The games aren't even out yet. I'm talking through my armpit.

It's my opinion. I can have that if I'd like.

Atleast Half-Life 2 doesn't need a fucking super computer to run.

incredible. I can't wait to see what this means for mappers, and online play. I can imagine using the gravity gun in HL2 MP (assuming there will be such a thing, I think they'd be stupid not to, but ya never know) to rip all kinds of things from everywhere and throw them at stuff. I wonder if you can use that thing on people...

I like the AI, from what I can see. It doesn't seem to have been given much of a chance (this video wasn't made to display that part of the game, methinks), but the part where the zombie shoots thru the windows 'cause he can't get in the door was pretty cool.

Doom3 is pure engine though, it just won't compare to the all round loveliness of HL2. Of course this is just speculation, I've no real idea what I'm talking about.

I noticed this dowloading a couple of days ago (preventing me from playing counterstrike for a few hours). I should have hacked the cache to get it early. This was awesome. I'm gonna watch it again.

Oh yeah, what's up with that, Valve? When are you going to implement the feature to let me pause updates?

Doom 3 will be cool, I hope, but it looks more "plasticish" compared to Half Life 2.

Anyway, what I can't wait to see is the one where you're in that town with Barney. That part was great.

They do need to change the player animation. He pushes the table around with his balls. He needs to stick his left hand our or something.

you can turn automatic updating OFF. rightclick it and go to properties - by default (at least for me) it is off.

also, i dont really think the movies need anti aliasing, they should just make them a higher resolution or something :-p

edit: also, the graphics seem somewhat lower quality... maybe i'm just delusional but i think that might be the case

The USP Match, or what ever gun Gordon uses in the trapdown video looks low poly crap, though it's only an early vid, it might look nicer when I play HL2
