    HL2 Traptown Vid

Steam has been updated to allow access to the Half-Life 2 Traptown video which is quite clearly the most exciting Half-Life 2 media released to date. Although we've seen it from the E3 presentation, this much higher quality version really shows the excellent physics, AI, and gameplay in action. You can download Steam for free at steampowered.com or get the file mirrored at FileShack.com. This movie is amazing and everyone in the world should be forced to watch it.

Thanks to Primacord for the info.

Yeah, but the aliasing is really getting to me. It's almost making the E3 video seem worse.

Cause its broke. ATI has to fix it with drivers and nvidia has to fucking make new cards. :X

Gabe Newell did some damage control and it doesn't seem like AA is that big of a deal.

I don't know, I think the issue is more about the resolution of the demos than AA. Actually, as I rewatch the trapdown video aliasing isn't too bad (but noticable).

I just can't wait to play this game to see the physics in action. You can tell that the physics are distorted a bit by the thing being recorded as a demo and then played back.

I agree. The farther things are away the more jagged they get, and the docs video tried to show us a scene with parts (dock legs) that were really far away.

This video just shows us how not-an-issue it will be come real gametime. We all know that Doom3 will be prettier.

Are you being sarcastic? I think Half-Life 2 looks much better, but it seems as if their release dates will be around 5 months apart anyway.

I think half-life 2 will be better for me personally but doom 3 will be a great game hopefully

I haven't seen much about the physics of DOOM 3, but I'd still like to see how that game goes.

                        You should download it's E3 2k3 trailer, just 65MB.

No I was being serious. I think Doom3 will look better for two reasons, illustrated in a nifty list:
» John Carmack does a video game engine good.

» Art direction for Doom3 will inherently make the game better looking.
While HL2 is always trying to look it's best, it really shows what it's made of when looking at gameplay, story, characters and character development, AI, and ingenuity. Doom3 is a game meant to scare people. That puts lots of pressure on the graphics side of the story-telling.

Here's two screenshots (probably subjectively chosen). One from Doom3, and another from HL2. In my mind, Doom3 wins. Source really feels like a (nicely refined) updated Half-Life (ex Quake) engine.

To the flames I'll be getting: Blah blah blah, I know nothing. The games aren't even out yet. I'm talking through my armpit.

It's my opinion. I can have that if I'd like.

HL2 looks a lot more realistic then doom3. Sure, the shadows are not as spiffy but im sure the source engine is a hell of a lot more flexible then the d3 engine.

All ive seen in doom3 is metal, metal, and a bad storyline they hired writers to write.

I loved doom so i really hope im wrong and it turns out to be an amazing sp experience.

Most systems out there now can't run the original Half-Life at a reasonable rate with FSAA on as it is. You're going to need one hell of a system to run Half-Life 2 with 4x FSAA on. In that sense, this problem isn't very big. However I'd like to see the "bleeding textures" problem fixed with FSAA on just because it is technically a bug and bugs are, as we all know, the devil.
