in my honest opinion, and i know you all care about it, it was too much text...straight from boring times.

Tell me if anyone gets that...rizzuh should...
We understand. It hurts to read. It takes the slightest modicum of effort which you simply do not have the ability to put forth.

Excercising your brain in even the smallest way gives you tremendous headaches, so it's better that we present you with nothing but small, one or two word commands, telling you how to think, because you can't be expected to try to think for yourself.

Please, by all means, skip Counter-Point, and go back to reading "One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish." Look at all those great pictures!

What's your solution? We limit ourselves to three words per message?

I have a solution: Don't post stupid-ass comments like this and just don't read counter-point.

Pennies, Rizzuh.. ignore the naysayers and keep up the good work. With a weekly entry of C-Point on CSN you can prove to the world not everyone who plays C-S is a brain-dead-12-year-old-*Newb*-and/or-Griefer.

Besides it provides a nice bit of intelligence which was sorely missing from this site before C-Point.

I'd have to say that I side with rizzuh on this one. Sure, game publishers might sit there and think "How we gunna make duh big bucks, dog?". But, the games have to come from someone's feeble mind, which involves creativity. Things that serve purposes of functionality without creativity are not art, but there are very few things in life that revolve around mere functionality. Anything that has a vestige of creativity is art in a sense. No I am not saying that everything that has some kind of creativity, like the flowers on your Kleenex box, should be held in such high regard as things that take huge amounts of imagination and effort a Picasso or CS. I think the underlying point here is that video games should be afforded the same kinds of liberties and limitations as any other kind of art. You go rizzuh.

And so are some of those abstract Picasso Paintings but ugliness doesn't mean its not art, in fact someone may consider something art simply because it is ugly.

Because that's what art is, it's what you consider to be art not what other people tell you art is. Another person might no agree with you so it's not art to them, but that doesn't mean it's not art to you.

So you enjoy your art and I'll enjoy mine and we'll both be the happier for it.
This is precisely why the whole discussion of what art is or, on the same token, is not. I heard a story recently (I don't know if this happened or not but it's a good example anyway) about a guy who took a crap in a white bucket and sold the bucket as art. But the interesting thing about this is that if this particular found some sort of higher aesthetic appeal in his own feces than to this individual it can be considered art. You and I may disagree but it's not entirely what you see but what you consider art. Which goes back the reference of the man who said all things are art, and if he believes this than it's true... to him.

And this single point goes strait back to the question of whether videogames are art. Taking into account the points made above everyone who considers videogames to be art are right and everyone who doesn't is right as well. It's a fundamental paradox in that aesthetic appeal, alike food preferences, is entirely up the individual in question.

Personally I feel that games are art; for example the first time I played through Final Fantasy 7 in the scene where Aeris is killed *I don't care if I spoiled the surprise for you* I was genuinely sadden by that. Emotion is in my opinion art in a very base form. Anyway from that scene on I have believed that there can be art in videogames.

Come on now, read the thing. Not once did I say that games can't be art. I even bring up an example of a game, "Ico," that I consider to be art.

I just don't think CS is art.

Multiplayer will always be primitive in ways of comparison to single player in the art/storyline department.

Morrowind vs CS in story line is just hands down Morrowind.

FPS games better just stick to the action and the maps to sell them. Leave the complex compelling storylines to the RPGs.

That comment is just loaded with ignorant bliss!!! There are quite a few FPSs with really really good story lines. Ex: Deus Ex

Deus Ex is FPS\RPG, a mix, not pure FPS. Good example of story telling will be Half-life.

Rizzuh was sounding a bit like Oscar Wilde for a bit, but then right back to being Rizzuh. W00t, I suppose. But very interesting article.

And yes, Deus Ex is one of my favorite games of all time and very much deserves the title of "Art."
