The one on G4 and TechTV will probably feature more coverege than the others, just because of their channels general focus...but still won't show much gore....it's just gonna be a given...but oh well, this will probably make some people go pick up a copy......

You're probably right though. However, what's the worst they can do? I doubt they'd get an actual ban put on the games themselves so that *nobody* could buy them. Perhaps they could try to get stores to not sell certain games to minors but I'm not so sure the stores would comply anyway. Though I'm no longer a minor, I still care and in general I'd hate to see them try something to harm gaming for the < 18 gamers who are as big a part of the community as older gamers.Comment

This is just the opportunity that the CPL needed to repeat the same things they've already said countless times, but on national television. Things like "pro gaming is the wave of the future", "Nuccio rubs my nards during meetings", and "pro gaming is the wave of the future". PLUS: several clips of people moving their mouse, filmed from the side of the monitor.

I think that the CPL going on television is a great idea and should bring the 'sport'? of gaming to a new level. Yet there is one major conflict I am seeing among these channels that the CPL will be shown on, one in particular, Nickelodeon. Great idea right? Getting thousands of kids to view what they may one day want to take apart in. The only bad part to this is that you have to be atleast 16 to even play in the tournament for reasons of content, yet they are willing to let boys and girls in ages of 8-12 view the game? Anyone else see something wrong with that picture?Comment

Anyway, I don't envision any sort of popular appeal coming from stuff like this. I've found most non-gamers to be pretty skeptical until they actually take the time to try playing a few rounds of something like CS. Then they'll start getting hooked. Watching something about it on TV isn't likely to get all that many people super interested who weren't bound to be interested in eSports in the first place.Comment

Don't forget that MTV was following fatality around for the Unreal Tournament @ CPL, that was for "True Life: I'm a Gamer".
I'm still pretty surprised at a network like ABC even talking about it. They're probably going to discuss the entire boom of the gaming industry as a whole and show the CPL as the start of some new consumer target audience for corporate America, etc etc etc. Now where's ESPN with some late night coverage of this thing? Actually, you may not know this but ESPN did have a short 10 minute report on the CPL and talked a little about CAL like 2 months ago. I was staying up one night and they were going to commercial break and said something like "Computer Games Becoming a Sport? Apparently So." They showed a little UT2K3 and some CS. It wasn't all that great of an interview though. :O While ESPN may not have late night coverage of it, they have atleast shown some look into it so don't be too surprised to find the CPL being covered on it within the next couple of years, especially considering the fact that poker is now covered on ESPN, ESPN2, and the Travel Channel.Comment

Unscrewed is wierd....and they say some pretty messed up stuff on "X Play" ....god Adam is a pervert.....lol....especially for games....Eg: during his preview of Jak2 for PS2 he said "And soon enough you can Jak 2" or something like that....so yeah, they will probably show the gore....and they did have 3D come in on Screen Savers once....so, they will hopefully show it all!!! Nighthawk basically hit on the hangup i have with the issue; you can't turn people on to some shady league when they haven't even been turned on to the game the league's using for competitions. It's not like there's still some gamer out there who's going to jump up and say "FUCK, that reminds me! I need to buy Half-Life!". I don't know what the point of this coverage would be other than to try and pound the CPL name into those who couldn't care less. That, and maybe say "See? Look, playing games is COOL! With the CPL it's the wave of the future! Ha ha, really! No, really!", except MTV already tried that and completely botched it up.a_russak wrote..
